carseat requirements for large toddler

Can anyone help me with this information? I have a large three year old who has outgrown the height and weight limit for his carseat. My pediatrician gave the go ahead for him to be in a high back booster seat. We are renting a car and want to be in compliance with Florida laws. Will a booster seat be okay? If not I%26#39;d rather buy a new carseat and take it with me rather than pay to rent a carseat that he is probably too big for.

I took this off the Florida child and safety act website:

316.613 Child restraint requirements

(1)(a) Every operator of a motor vehicle as defined herein, while transporting a child in a motor vehicle operated on the roadways, streets, or highways of this state, shall, if the child is 5 years of age or younger, provide for protection of the child by properly using a crash-tested, federally approved child restraint device. For children aged through 3 years, such restraint device must be a separate carrier or a vehicle manufacturer%26#39;s integrated child seat. For children aged 4 through 5 years, a separate carrier, an integrated child seat, or a seat belt may be used.
