can you rent a car in Orlando and return it in Tampa?

who is best to rent from and does anyone know if the rental company will deliver the car to us or pick us up? We dont want to rent one until were ready to leave disney and drive down to the gulf..and we want to fly out of Tampa so we would want to return it there.

We also didnt want to have to go back to the airport in Orlando just to rent, this is why were hoping to find one that will deliver, or is very very close to disney.

Thanks in advance for all of your wonderful helpful advice!!!!

National and Alamo are onsite at Disney World. Check out this Mousesaver site for more information:

Look under the Locations heading

Depends on the company and the terms of the rental. Under some there is a %26#39;drop off%26#39; fee, which can be as high as $125. Others no fee, but the weekly rate is higher. Most of the large companies [I use Hertz] have free drop-off within the state of FL and I do it often. The low priced folks may well have the drop-off fee. The local companies may not allow it as their feelts are too small.

Check the rental agreement terms on the website for the company, or call and ask directly. It varies. And DO NOT assume that all rates include free drop off at alternate airports. Off airport locations can be franchises, not corporate owned, and may not follow the corporate policy and levy a fee. Make sure both the pick-up and drop-off are in the %26#39;free drop-off%26#39; program when renting off-airport.

Just some suggestions. Those drop off charges can be a surprise.

not sure where you are from but if your booking from the uk, you can take the car and drop it off anywhere in the State of Florida WITHOUT and i repeat again WITHOUT a drop off fee.

I believe its the only state that allows this.

Depends whom you book with as in Travel Agent as well.

Im renting a car from Dollar in Orlando MCO and returning it to Tampa TPA with no extra charges for this. I am booking it indirectly with Dollar through a UK agency.

http://www.uscarhireco.uk

But Im sure as the agency can offer this Dollar are the same. It only stands to reason.

what are the dates???

And ill have a look what tyoe of car also??

California has the same arrangement on pick-up and drop-off allowance as FL for most of the regular agencies.

We rented through Alamo last summer and picked up a car in Tampa, dropping it off in Orlando without penalty. I think we dropped it off at the Downtown Disney Doubletree or similar hotel. Later that trip, we picked up a car at the Disney Car Care Center (a rental company shuttle picked us up from our hotel) and dropped it off at the Miami airport location, again without penalty. Later, we rented from Budget (I think) and picked up a car in Miami and dropped it off in Tampa. They even accepted our coupons. You can check mousesavers.com for car rental discount codes. I checked the rental company websites, travelocity.com, orbitz.com and through the car section of United Airlines%26#39; website to compare raters and just plugged in my locations.

Getting the pick-up and drop off sites for the Disney property was a little tricky because I tried using ';Lake Buena Vista'; as the city and the web sites didn%26#39;t accept that. So I tried ';Orlando'; and used the zip code ';32830'; (this might be on the ';advanced search'; option)and it brought up the WDW drop off %26amp; pick up locations.

I%26#39;ve heard that there might be special issues with renting frm the UK so I hope this is applicable.

All of the Downtown Disney hotels have a car rental desk-Avis is at the Hilton,Alamo is at the Buena Vista Palace,Dollar is at Doubletree Suies-just check with the individual hotels there and see who they do business with. It%26#39;s easy to get to and then you can just drive back to your hotel and get the luggage. Most of them let you drop off anywhere in Florida but again, you need to ask before you pick a car rental company.

libbyswin,

Normally, large well known car rentals never apply a drop-off fee within Florida. Nevertheless, it would be wise to always ask as current rules could change particularly when gas prices are persistently going up. I know that some local service companies (other than car rentals) are already evaluating that possibility. Obviously, gas is a big factor when it comes to rented cars vis-a-vis operation costs/profit.Imho.

Thanks so much. For those who asked, I%26#39;m in Texas, not the UK. I am staying on property, so i think, if im not mistaken that Dollar at Lake Bueno Vista might be my best bet? Gosh, so much to do and so little time!
