Recommendation for Cuban restaurant/cigar shop

My husband and I are staying in Fort Lauderdale for a week (4/15-22), but plan to drive to Miami Beach for one, possibly two, days. We are looking for Cuban restaurant recommendations (prefer a casual, family-owned type of place).

Also, husband is into cigars. Any recommendations on shops would be very appreciated.

Visiting South Beach for a day, I%26#39;d suggest you park just north of the Lincoln Mall on 17th Street anywhere east of Meridian Avenue up to Washington. There are garages and open lots on the south side of the street.

Once you%26#39;ve safely stowed your car, check out the cigar bar at Lincoln and Meridian Tropical CIGAR lounge at 741 Lincoln where hubby can stoke up a stogie and you can try a Mojito! Yes - please try at least one Mojito while you are here. It%26#39;s minty and refreshing and light - and then you can%26#39;t recall your name for a while...

Once fortified, wander back to Meridian, turn right (northbound toward Macy%26#39;s Dept Store) and you%26#39;ll see David%26#39;s Cafe. This very casual storefront cafe fills the bill for casual Cuban dining.

Then back to the cafes and cigars and MORE mojitos...

Enjoy!

Recommendation for Cuban restaurant/cigar shop

My husband and I spend 10 days a year in Miami. He is a big cigar smoker and likes to go into Little Havana to purchase hand-rolled cigars. Just go to Calle Ocho (8th Street) and you will see several cigar shops and cuban restaurants. We have eaten at El Pescador and liked it very well.

Good idea Race Fan...

Gaclic, If you decide to go to Miami rather than Miami Beach, you can check out the Cuban storefronts where local ex-pats still roll cigars the old fashioned way... (the district runs on Eighth Street ';calle ocho'; from 11th to 16th Avenue).

El Credito Cigars, a leading tobacco factory located in the heart of Little Havana, is as much a historic landmark as it is a thriving business. Family-owned %26amp; operated, El Credito produces top quality handmade cigars including La Gloria Cubana. Most of the workers are Cubans who had mastered the art of rolling tobacco back in the old country. In the Cuban custom, each cigar is entirely crafted by the same person.

El Credito Cigars claims to offer the next best thing to a genuine Cuban cigar for a great price.

Check it out at: 1106 SW 8th Street (305)858-4162

If you decide to make a night of it - check out Hoy Como Ayer - this legendary nightclub is an institution for live Cuban music and culture. The house band is smooth and rich. Rum flows freely. It%26#39;s a great way to get in rhythm with the locals. Wed and Thurs 10pm-1am; Fri and Sat 9pm-4am.

...or Casa Panza (more Espana than Cubana), 1620 S.W. 8th Street (305/643-5343), which turns into a flamenco dance club on Tues. and Thurs. nights.

Enjoy!
