Health Club or Gym in Old Town

Can anyone recommend a good health club in or near Old Town? We%26#39;ve been to Club Body Tech and it%26#39;s okay, but we were hoping to find a better place. Suggestions?

Club Body Tech is about as good as you%26#39;re going to find. Don%26#39;t expect to find what you have at home. We don%26#39;t have any ';real'; gyms like Crunch orBally%26#39;s (or, in some cities, the YMCA%26#39;s are awesome too).

We%26#39;ve worked out at the Pier House, but that%26#39;s only available to non-guests if you are purchasing a spa service.

If you happen to ever stay at the Lighthouse Inn, they have a small gym for their guests to use.

Someone recommended to me a place called Body Zone. However it is in the Overseas Market, which is not in Old Town. We are thinking of giving it a try, with Body Tech in our back pocket, when we are there next.

I have a membership at Body Zone South. It%26#39;s in the same plaza as Winn-Dixie. basically similar to Club Body Tech. Again, these are no Crunch or Bally%26#39;s. I miss my old gym :( :( :(

SMK would you mind giving a little more info on the two clubs? What kind of equipment, how big, do they get really crowded, and maybe most importantly, do either have spinning classes?

Thanks,

ss

Club Body Tech has a web site:

They are both very small, by my standards. When I lived in Charlotte, we had the best YMCA%26#39;s. They were all multi-level with huge gyms, tracks, aerobics rooms, yoga rooms and tons of equipment (some classes had over 150 people in them). Neither here are like that. Most clases only have a handfull of people. Equipment is basic. They have everything you need, but nothing extra. I only go in the evenings, as I work all day, so I cannot speak for any other time of the day except then. I have never seen either place be full.

My suggestion - fill your iPod up with your favorites and take some nice long runs in Old Town. It%26#39;s my favorite thing to do. Go off the beaten path in the neighborhoods and you%26#39;ll find the most beautiful homes and cool little businesses. Then, you won%26#39;t be stuck in a gym while you%26#39;re visiting such an awesome place. The streets between Simonton and White are my favorite.

Yes, SMK, we often do just that, as well as take long bike rides around the perimeter of the island. We were just looking for some alternatives, including a spinning class. We normally stay somewhere that has a small gym on site (Hilton, Hyatt, etc.), but this time we won%26#39;t have access to a hotel gym.

Our local Y is much like you were describing, big facility with lots of equipment, classes, two pools, lots of tennis courts and such.
