Ritz Carlton help please

We are staying at the Ritz Key Biscayne in a month to celebrate my mother%26#39;s 80th birthday. We would not generally spend that kind of money and have come to realize all the added expenses that we are likely to incur. Does anyone know how to get around the valet parking at the hotel? They charge $24 per day and we would ideally like to self park. Also, how far is a supermarket from the hotel. We would like to have food in the room for our toddlers instead of relying on the pricey room service. Thanks.

not sure how to surpass the valet parking, especially if you have kids, it might be a nice feature. At the sonesta, I once got a hold of an employee parking key which let me park in valet parking. I simply had to return it on my check out. There is a supermarket (the win dixie) with in walking distance so don%26#39;t worry about that.

We stayed June %26#39;05, and as far as I know, there is no easy way around the mandatory valet. To be honest, it is very convenient. And we were there to relax, so we only rented a car for a couple of days--there is an Enterprise car rental in the Sonesta next door (if it%26#39;s still there).

You could try parking somewhere on the condo grounds, but you run the risk of being towed. Maybe you could park on municipal property across the main street (outside the complex)?

As for shopping, the Winn-Dixie is outside the property and down the street to the left. There are also other shops, restaurants, etc. in that shopping center. It%26#39;s about a 15-minute walk, maybe less--not very far. We brought back food from the supermarket and never had any problems with the hotel staff.

Just returned from the Ritz. No avoiding the valet charge or the 18% gratuity that they tack on everything. Beware the rooms are very small. There is a supermarket close by to purchase food which we took advantage of. We also went to breakfast at other spots on the island, and left the island for dinner. There is a french bakery nearby that was great. The conceirge was very helpful. Read my review before going, I wrote it today so it should post shortly. We were very dissappointed in the Ritz for the money they charge. I would think long and hard before returning. We have stayed at many nice resorts all over, and in our opinon the Ritz cannot even come close to comparing.

I live a block from The Ritz-Carlton and not many people know this, but there is a self-parking area right before you get to the hotel. It%26#39;s free. It%26#39;s on your right- right before you see the resort. Hope this helps! Also, there are a lot of less pricey restaurants within walking distance on the other side of Crandon Blvd. There is also a Winn-Dixie there (supermarket).

Enjoy your stay!
