Visiting in August.....

Hi all,

my wife and I are going with my sister, her 2 kids, mum and boyfriend to Orlando from August 22nd for 2 weeks. Whilst we will I%26#39;m sure (with the help of the Tripadvisor forum) have a great time my wife and I would like to %26#39;get away%26#39; for a couple of nights during the 2 weeks we are there and looking for some advice.

We are looking for a beach based resort, ideally not jammed pack full of toursits, good restaurants, possibly some %26#39;other, non disney%26#39; toursity things to do (although not essential).....basically somewhere we can chill out for a few days, whilst not breaking the bank and spending some %26#39;us%26#39; time!

Any ideas and suggestions would be most appreciated.

Many thanks in advance

Chris

cricket200477,

In situations like yours, I have previously suggested Turtle Beach in Sarasota on the Gulf coast. It%26#39;s about 2 to 2:30 hours driving from Kissimmee depending on the traffic. This is a small cozy hotel with a lot of privacy. It is located on the causeway but does not have a beach. Nevertheless, it has several boats/kajaks and there is a very secluded and isolated beach not far from the hotel that you could enjoy after some 10-15 minutes of rowing. No extra fee. Please, notice that you should take with you a cooler with your favorite drinks, snacks and an umbrella as there are no vendors of any nature available. The hotel staff is always willing to assist. Crystal clear warm waters and very quiet. A hidden paradise. Ideal for couples.

Thanks for the replies so far....sounds what I%26#39;m after....

Whilst we aren%26#39;t %26#39;sun vultures%26#39; my wife and I on holiday enjoy walking / watching the world go by, good bars to enjoy a long cool drink in and whilst not nightclubs of an evening anywhere %26#39; a bit different%26#39; - maybe take in a show of some kind?. (we are 28 %26amp; 34yo by the way)

any other advice most welcome!!

Thanks

i have always found treasure island everything i have needed... its 2hrs away but any more laidback it would be in a coma.......its just up from st pete beach .... i go every year for 7 days and its wonderful.... of course that,s only my opinion.....

First of all, you should be aware that August is the hottest month in Florida.

I live in Sarasota and can tell you that you will find great rates on all resorts and condos. There will not be a ton of tourists.

Siesta Key has beautiful beaches and all types of restaurants in the area. There are museums and parks to visit.

I don%26#39;t think you would be disappointed.

Except for the heat, of course!

Hi Chris

The previous post was right - it is hot but with the help of a few cool beers and a gorgeous beach I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ll cope. We%26#39;ve been to the beaches several times in August and it%26#39;s been wonderful. I love the Marriott Suites at Sand Key, Clearwater. They%26#39;ve not long been refurbished and the rooms are really spacious. Although it%26#39;s not beachside (it%26#39;s just across the road and the hotel put on a courtesy shuttle) there are great views of the bay from every hotel balcony. The pool is great and is always lively - they have live music throughout the day. There%26#39;s a Boardwalk off the hotel where there are a few restaurants and shops in walking distance, and a little trolley that takes you into Clearwater for the evenings. Check it out on this website.
