Helmsley Sandcastle

Has anyone stayed there recently? Haven%26#39;t been there since 1995. At that time, the mattresses were pretty bad and rooms in need of remodeling.

Helmsley Sandcastle

A Sarasota institution, but about the same as you remember it. Try the Lido Beach Resort and request the new tower if you want something in the same area but MUCH newer and nicer. Good luck.

Thanks! I figured not much had been done after viewing the current photos and seeing the same furniture that was there in 1985 when we first went there! So sad, because the layout and the pools are great. Too bad Helmsley doesn%26#39;t want to put any $$ into this resort. Will check the Lido beach Resort. Already saw several good reviews on it.

yep, the place is owned by NY%26#39;s finest, ';The Queen of Mean';..Ms Leona. Saw her the other day. That place used to be owned by the Sheraton group, it was bad as I remember it in the late 70s as it probaly is today, the location however is fantastic. I don%26#39;t know if they still have that wonderful outside tiki bar by the pool anymore !! Wow what memories with the bartender named ';Dynamite ! one of the best bartenders that ever served a drink in Sarasota !

I loved the Tiki bar, too! We went to the Sandcastle every year from 1985-1995. It%26#39;s such a great set-up. Wish someone would buy it and renovate it!

I was walking on Lido Beach this past Saturday and noticed that the old landmark Tiki Bar that was once owned by, and formerly know as---Azure Tides Hotel.....is open now! Had a delish Margarita and talked to the bartender. He was a cutie pie and said that was their second day in ooperation. Used to be a fun spot...unfortunately now there is no public parking and accessable to the partons of the neighboring resorts, or beachcomers like myself.
