Last May, there was a thread called Snorkeling in September and Hawkfish posted a detailed response that may help with your question.

There are two LONG STANDING companies in Destin that offer snorkeling.
Scubatech
www.scubatechnwfl.com
Emerald Coast Scuba
www.divedestin.com
Both offer snorkeling trips and supply all equipment.
Trips run about 25.00 per person and last about 2 1/2 hours.
Both these companies have been in Destin for at least 13 years and are very good.

If you have your own gear read on...if you need gear you should go on a boat.
I snorkel the jettys regularly. There are snorkel boats available but they are ripoffs - you can walk to the same destinations they go to for free.
The boats usually go to two places - the jettys and the west shore off of Crab Island near the Coast Guard station. Both are accessible by foot.
To get to the jettys (best) go to Gulf Shore Drive (Holiday Isle) and follow past all 3 stop signs, the last one you will make a sharp right and then it will curve around to the left some. Look on your left for a ';public access'; sign and a shower. Follow the path out to the pass and you%26#39;ll see the jettys on your left. Go over the rocks of the first one you see and you%26#39;ll find a nice, little secluded beach with the east jetty in front of you to the left. Snorkel out along the jetty and you%26#39;ll see all kinds of fish and crabs. You can snorkel all the way to the end where it gets about 30 feet deep, but beware of the current - a slack tide is best. You%26#39;ll see schools of hardtails, bluefish, sheepshead and maybe a grouper in the rocks - some with a leader still in their mouth from victorious battles with anglers.
The other spot you%26#39;ll want to go is to park underneath the west side of the bridge that leads into Destin from Okaloosa Island. Walk underneath the bridge and snorkel on out towards the Coast Guard Station. There are lots of grass flats and you%26#39;ll see various fish - speckled trout, flounder, redfish and schools of baitfish. There are lots of bluecrabs and live hermits too.
Be sure you have a dive flag for safety from the boats and it%26#39;s the law to snorkel with one.
The currents are very strong under the bridge and at the Jetties if you are in the wrong place.
In addition to a dive flag, I recommend that you are aware of the high and low tides.
