irelands beach resort inn or marriotts beach place

Looking for some feedback to help with our decision as to which resort we would enjoy most. Male/female couple in mid-40s. Like a little action, but also enjoy quiet time.

Thanks

I%26#39;ve never stayed at either place, but from what you describe, I would recommend Beach Place. I love Ireland%26#39;s for it%26#39;s mid-Century-modern architecture and Old Florida charm, but there isn%26#39;t much to do at Irelands (or within a 5-minute walk for that matter), and the clientele is historically, well...a little historic themselves. ;-)

Beach Place has a wide mix of folks -- lots of seasonal rentals (it%26#39;s a time share as well as a hotel), many foreigners, about 6 (mediocre) restaurants and bars and frequent live music. Some of the bars get a little raucous late-night, but I doubt it%26#39;d keep you awake, as they all face the ocean. It%26#39;s touristy, no doubt -- basically a mall on the beach, but that makes it a good vacation spot, especially for Fort Lauderdale first-timers. I should mention that both hotels, like many other areas around town, currently have construction sites next to them. Again, this shouldn%26#39;t be a major inconvenience, but it%26#39;s worth noting.

I think I would also vote for beach Place, although , as a local, I have never stayed at either. Beach Place would put you closer to a variety of restaurants for one thing. Ireland%26#39;s Inn is further away along the Beach and really has no restaurants anywhere within reasonable walking distance, except their own dining room, a rather shabby patio bar and grill and the restaurants of the Pelican Beach Resort just down the road, which are rather expensive.

We live just north of Irelands and the area is primarily residential , not tourist oriented. We visited Ireland%26#39;s for cocktails about two weeks ago. It is a very old facility and will be closing ( probably this summer or next fall) for major renovations. Across the access road from it are several small apartment buildings and former old motels that apparently now belong to Irelands. A couple of them seem to have been added to Irelands for additional hotel rooms, and we observed one that seemed to be being used for employee housing. Several of these buildings are boarded up or in the process of being demolished. It is a rather depressing sight and I would be unhappy if I had booked there and had to look at crumbling buildings every day. We also felt that if the bar was any indication, The hotel is no longer being well maintained, perhaps in anticipation of demolition and reconstruction shortly.

At this point, Ireland%26#39;s would not be my choice.

I would agree with the previous poster that there is lots of construction taking place around the Beach Place area, but I think it is still a better choice right now than Ireland%26#39;s Inn. I certainly hope Ireland%26#39;s will be a more desirable choice once the renovations are made.
