book in advance?

ok, new here but love the info. i%26#39;m thinking about riding down to KW at the end of april. with what i%26#39;m reading, will i be able to find a room for a few nights? do i need to reserve one? not sure what day i%26#39;ll be getting there.

does anyone have any advice on %26#39;must sees'; on the way there(from arkansas). wanting to ride down west side of FL. then back up the east side. thanks!

book in advance?

Yes, I think you should go ahead and book something in advance. April is still high season in Key West and it may be difficult to find something at the last minute.

As for the trip down, I hope you have a LONG time!!! I can%26#39;t imagine making that trip by car.

book in advance?

Hello fellow Arkansans! Where are you guys from? I%26#39;m in Benton, just south of Little Rock on I-30.

olelucky, I don%26#39;t know about everywhere on the island, but we arrive the 30th of April and I have been booked since January. I know the place we are staying is booked solid around that time... trying to pinpoint a day and make reservations would probably be a good idea. I love what you are planning on doing! My husband and I (he is a Floridian) want to someday drive down the gulf coast and back up the atlantic too... but, we don%26#39;t have that much vacation time! :-)

i suppose a car would be nice, but i%26#39;m coming on a motorcycle. now the common question, recommendations, B%26amp;B, hotel, i%26#39;ll probably just stay a couple of days then head back up the other side. coming by myself, so doesn%26#39;t need to be romantic, haha. just decent

hey vacationobessed! i%26#39;m from hot springs. what route will ya%26#39;ll be taking?

This trip we are flying (hopefully, if Delta does not strike). We don%26#39;t have very long so that is what we are doing.

We have gone several ways down to Florida though. We go every year at least once and we%26#39;ve gone through south Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi a couple different routes. And we%26#39;ve gone through Memphis to Birmingham to Montgomery and down. Then last Dececmber we went Memphis to Birmingham to Atlanta and down. There are so many different ways to do it!

Since you are wanting to go up one side and down the other it might make sense for you to go one of the ways down that would put you going through Mobile. Then you can start in the panhandle and see Pensacola and Destin and Panama City, etc. We love that area of Florida too...

I%26#39;m headed down next week, flying into Ft. Myers and then driving rental south to Naples, then across A.A. and down to Key West. This is my third trip. Accomodations can be tough and most places inforce the 3 day minimum. There are travel agent stands downtown, and the agents can be very helpful in finding you a place to stay. Next week seems to be fairly busy, so good luck. I like Courtney%26#39;s, a nice B%26amp;B and The Bottle Inn is also highly recommended.

Must see is Naples, the affuence and nice homes + if you like ribs, visit MichleBob%26#39;s in Naples for the best ribs I have ever tasted. Don%26#39;t miss the Park Ranger tour of Bahia Honda beach, one of the nicest beaches in the country. The Key West beaches will disappoint, since all the sand was lost during dredging for military operations during WW2.

And I live in Little Rock. Who says we Arkies don%26#39;t know how to have fun?

hey susancs B%26amp;B or hotel? and which? seems to be a big price difference after may 1st. is that the start of the off season?

olelucky - I%26#39;ll have to let someone else give you advice about where to stay. We almost always stay at the Galleon, so I don%26#39;t have much personal experience with other places. I%26#39;ve heard great reviews of the Best Western Hibiscus and Southernmost on the Beach, though. They%26#39;re both in good locations and the prices won%26#39;t break the bank. Of B%26amp;Bs, the Island City House and Ambrosia get wonderful reviews, too. All in all, there are LOTS of good options in all price ranges - from very high to very reasonable.

I think most places consider May to be the beginning of low season, though there%26#39;s no hard or fast rule.
