bus trip or rental car to Key West?

We will be driving a rental car from Tennessee. We know we will be charged for miles on the rental. (We usually do Orlando without any miles over the contract amount but this trip will be much longer.) Would it be cheaper to find a bus trip to Key West? I heard that there is one from our resort but it was said to be 110. per person. There are 4 of us. Which would be the best way to go?

Thanks.

What! You are renting a car that does not include unlimited mileage! I didn%26#39;t think that still existed. Wouldn%26#39;t it be cheaper to find a rental that has unlimited mileage, especially if you are going to return it to the renting location in TN?

Well, we live in a small town in Tn. The only rental company here is Enterprise. We have rented from them the past 2 years. If you know of a company that gives unlimited miles please let me know. I%26#39;d like to kep the cost down as much as possible.

Most of the companies I know do give free miles...even Enterprise.

But USUALLY, thats if you keep the car in the state you rented from.

I would not pay for the mileage fee.....go back and tell them you are a very good customer, and feel the rental fees ought to include milage.

If they say they will have to charge you more for the week or month, I might go fo paying more. \\Have you found or looked for any coupons that might give you some kind of break?

The non discounted R/T fare on Greyhound for 2 adukts is $130.00.

Several times...leave at 5:15 AM arrive 5 + hours later, return next eve at 5:45 PM.

Amtrak has discontinued their ambus to Key West.

I see a couple of options here. You must have a ';big'; town nearby where you can get one of the big nationwide rental companies.

Call one of them and ask their rental rates for unlimited mileage and whether you can drive it out of state. I don%26#39;t see that it matters since you will be returning it to the renting location. But they have their rules.

Or take the Greyhound into Jacksonville, FL or wherever they stop in Florida, and rent a car from one of the nationwide companies that will give you unlimited mileage.

replying to this post has become a major pain---what%26#39;s with the sign in and password all of a sudden. Anyway, thanks to both of you. I found a good deal on the Enterprise website. Unlimited miles in the cont. US, 10 days for 250.00. Hopefully they will honor that rate here.

Glad to hear you found that. Be sure to print out the web site page with your transaction. Now we can only hope that gas will not go too much more than $3/gallon.

Well, maybe if gas is that high everyone else will stay home and there won%26#39;t be as much traffic on the roads or as many bodies on the beach!
