Where is Dennis Pharmacy moving to in June?

I know they are moving, but does anyone know what the new location is?

Where is Dennis Pharmacy moving to in June?

Stopped in at Dennis this pm and asked the same question... They do not know when they%26#39;re closing and they don%26#39;t know where the lunch counter is going to end up.

Where is Dennis Pharmacy moving to in June?

We had lunch there last Wednesday. The pharmacist told us they were targeting a June move. The pharmacy is moving somewhere in New Town, but I haven%26#39;t seen an exact loacation. An article in the Miami Herald said the diner is looking to relocate, but $$$ might be a problem.

  • Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure

Is it different admission for these parks? We only had one day planned for Universal in July. Which park is better for children 2, 4, 5 and 7? How far apart are the parks?

Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure

the parks are a few hundred metres apart and going well at a quiet time you could do both in one day, but its hard to pick,

you have shrek in universal which is a big pull and men in black. but i think jimmy neutron is closing ??? but there is et also and the animal planet show which as an adult even i enjoyed.

in the other park you have spinderman, dr zuss and the dionsaurs of jurassic park so its 50/50 but i%26#39;d there early and try and get both done, if you are there at opening you%26#39;ll get shrek out of the way early !!!

Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure

There is a different admission to each park. They are walking distance apart (5 minute adult walk) and if you rent a stroller in one park you can take the stroller to the other park with you. At Islands of adventure all the children will be able to go on rides in Seuss Landing, see Dr. Seuss characters, and the 5 and 7 year olds depending on their heights will be able to enjoy other rides like maybe the Spiderman ride and a few others. If they are into Spiderman, Captain America, Xmen and a few other super heroes they%26#39;ll be able to see them at this park. You%26#39;ll need to get a time schedule when you enter the park. In November when we were there the super heroes arrived at the top of most of the hours.

At Universal Studios they can see characters such as Jimmy Neutron, SpongeBob, Shrek, Scooby Do, Woody Wood Pecker, Penguins from Madagascar, Barney. The 2 %26amp; 4 year olds can go on and do things in the Kids Zone section where they have a small roller coaster, fun play areas one dry and one with water. You can also go see a Barney show and an Animal Planet Live show in this section. The 5 %26amp; 7 year olds, again depending on their heights, may be able to go on a couple rides like Men in Black and Back to the future. There%26#39;s also the Shrek 3-D that all can enjoy and the Jaws ride depening on if you think they%26#39;d be terrified or not.

We like both parks and each time we were there have visited both (our kids now are 3 %26amp; 5). Both times we went I have found the best deals and purchased my tickets from the Universal site www.universalorlando.com. They can run some good specials like kids free and three days free on each 2 day/2 park paid adult ticket or a non-expiring second day.

The parks are side by side. Admission is separate for each park. AAA is running a special where you get a free child%26#39;s ticket for each adult ticket (a great deal) and you can buy a 2-park pass. It%26#39;s a 2-day 2-park pass but they%26#39;ve added on 3 additional days for free. I think they are also offering this on the Universal Studios website. Both parks have great stuff for the kids. We%26#39;ve been doing both since my son was 1 1/2. We also have 4, now 6, 7, 10 and 13. Universal Studios has some great rides (Jimmy Neutron, Back to the Future, Shrek, Jaws (not too scary)) that all can enjoy. There%26#39;s an area for small kids with a Woody Woodpecker small rollercoaster and a Curious George water park. Also, Animal Planet does a show that%26#39;s great for the kids and a nice break. Islands of Adventure has bigger rides but also a really wonderfully done Dr. Seussland. Plus, even if someone is just waiting with the 2-year old, the people watching is great.

Wow thanks for the info. I have a lot to think about for our schedule. Different admission? Interesting.

  • Curious

I have rented a condo on the beach at the Gulf Strand Resort for a week on our honeymoon in July. Can anyone tell me if I have made a good choice? Were from Kentucky and have had to rely on Pics. off the internet for info. Also, we were assured we would have a gulf view, does it appear that all the condos have gulf views or what? I would appreciate any input!!!!

    Curious

I really think you will like the Gulf Strand. It has the best beach access and lovely balconies off of each room. I think all the rooms do have a gulf view. (Check the candid photos on TA). I%26#39;m pretty sure you will enjoy your view.

The only down side is that is next door to the public access beach parking.

Another upside is that you have shopping right across the street (groceries, restaraunts, everything).

    Curious

Thank you for your input swim, that reassures me quite a bit. It was a hard decision going on blind faith .........ummm ok. stupid question time. What candid pics. are you referring to?

When you view the list of hotels on TripAdvisor, it will give you one picture provided by the hotel and a like to other photos provided by the hotel. However, when you click on the hotel%26#39;s name, or in this case condo, it should have a link up at the top near the address that says ';View Candid Traveler Photos';. I submitted quite a few just last week and they should be accessible from there.

:) I don%26#39;t think that link is very noticeable there either. I keep hoping TripAdvisor will move it up to be accessible from where they list all of the hotels.

I just read the London reviewers review about the views overlooking the parking lot. That is true. It is not a straight shot looking out where you would see nothing else but water unless you are on the end of hte building closest to the beach.

Did you find the pictures? If that doesn%26#39;t look like what you were wanting, I don%26#39;t recall any condos on St. Pete Beach that are laid out longwise along the beach so that every room has a dead on view but Madeira Beach is full of them. Las Brisas, Kima, Ocean Sands, Sea Breeze are just a few. I%26#39;d beware of Sea Breeze though as it has some some bad reviews despite having possibly the best beach and prettiest views.

We have been coming to st pete beach for many years. This year our neighbors stayed at the Gulf Strand and were very pleased. Her only complaint was that it was small for her family, but that won%26#39;t be a problem in your case. The grocery store is across the street and you can actually walk to some fun restaurants. As mentioned in other replies, the condo sits at a right angle to the beach. For good beach grub go to Crabby BIll%26#39;s and order something like the blackened grouper sandwich. 24 years ago we spent our honeymoon in Clearwater. Best wishes!!

For pictures go go google.com click on images and enter gulf strand. Quite a few come up.

Jet boat rental at WDW resorts

We love boats and jet-ski%26#39;s and plan on hiring out at a wdw resort. Can you hire on the day or do you need to pre book. Also, does anyone have any info on the cost involved? thanks.

You might just find that you carnt now just walk into a hire shop and hire one.

There has been so many realy bad accidents with jet skies i belive they have placed restrictions on hire.

I do belive you do now have to prove that you are a competent person with some paperwork /qulification

Jet boat rental at WDW resorts

    Hello pinkdiamond,

We have always been able to walk up and grab a boat however I would check at the dock of your resort after arrival and check on how busy they are during your visit. A Canopy which fits 8 people is $27.00 for half hour, Pontoon $42.00. SeaRaycers are $24.00 for half hour.

I typed ';marina'; in to the search function at www.waltdisneyworld.com and found that you can call (407) 939-0754 for information.

Just from what I saw, a canopy or pontoon looks best. The racer, by Searay, idles at best. Nothing goes faster than putt putt. At least have some shade!

The rentals are by the half hour. I don%26#39;t think you can book the regular rentals ahead of time, only the rentals that include a driver. I%26#39;ve never seen the marinas totally empty even on really busy days. There are a limited number of canopy and pontoon boats though, so if they don%26#39;t have one at the first resort you go to, hop on the monorail and try another. Our family has found it to be more economical to rent one canopy boat instead of two or three of the smaller boats, and the canopy boats go plenty fast enough.

February 2007 Wedding - need recommendations!

Hello all. I%26#39;m recently engaged and looking for a beautiful, reasonably-priced ceremony/reception site in the LBK area. I%26#39;ve researched AMI already...Sandbar Restaurant seems very popular but may be TOO casual???

My fiance and I are headed down to visit from Atlanta in April and I%26#39;d like to have a solid list of venues to visit by then. So far on my list...Sandbar, The Sun House, LBK Club %26amp; Resort. Any others that I%26#39;m overlooking???

The wedding will be about 100 people or so...informal on the beach...but NOT tacky or cheesy. Seems there is a fine line... Please help - I%26#39;m interested in hearing any and all advice. Thanks!

February 2007 Wedding - need recommendations!

I%26#39;m not sure about your wedding plans, but I can tell you about two places you can stay at for your honeymoon. Little Gull Cottages is a beautiful place for a romantic honeymoon. It is right on the beach and is more of a private beach. Wicker Inn is another romantic getaway surrounded by gorgeous tropical plants and a quick walk down a path to the beach. I have stayed in both places and loved it. this is just a soggestion. Please check them out.

February 2007 Wedding - need recommendations!

    Hi there,

My husband and I used to live in Atlanta and were married in LBK 4/04. We were married at the Hilton which we found reasonably priced and made for a beautiful wedding spot. I know since we were married there, they have done a lot of renovations. I don%26#39;t know if you checked with them already, but I remember them working with our budget, too. We were married on the beach and had our reception indoors at their Antigua Room. I would be happy to send you a link to wedding photos or answer any questions you may have. I checked out all the same spots you are checking out. I did find that the Sandbar was too casual for us. Oh, and we had a little under 100 ppl.

Confused on reviews for this hotel - nothing new lately...

Has anyone heard anything about Ramada Plaza Marco Polo Beach Resort? There are some very ugly reviews but some positive as well. Nothing seems real current. Anyone lately?

Confused on reviews for this hotel - nothing new lately...

Not family friendly, ethnic senior citizen haven.

Confused on reviews for this hotel - nothing new lately...

Is that for the entire Sunny Isles area or just this one place in particular?

Sunny Isles Beach is known as very family friendly beach unlike South Beach which is topless,an adult playground.

Where do you want to stay? Sunny Isles is a small area in North Miami Beach. It is about a 30 min. drive from South Beach. It%26#39;s not a bad location, but it is a more mature crowd (40s+) and more family-oriented. Not much to do around there except hit the beach of go shopping at Aventura Mall (located 5 mins. away). A nice hotel in that area would be the Trump Sonesta Sunny Isles.

    I%26#39;ve just been there (2006-Apr-6 to 2006-Apr-9).

This hotel has gotten really hammered by people in this forum. It%26#39;s not that bad. They are in the process of replacing the carpeting in the hallways. The rooms are large and have fridges in them that actually get cold. The rooms are clean... they%26#39;re a bit dated, but I had no problems with the rooms being dirty. There was some wallpaper peeling in my room, but nothing to freak out about.

People need to keep in mind that this is a Ramada, not a Windham or Marriott. If you demand 5 star service open up your wallet and pay for it, don%26#39;t expect it from a 3 star resort.

I also saw someone mention roaches... saw only one and that was down by the pool/beach well away from the hotel.

The A/C was a little noisy, but I turned it off and had the window open most of the time because I don%26#39;t like A/C. You can turn the fan down and that cuts the noise.

There is a free breakfast that is pretty much muffins, bagels, bread, cereal... standard stuff. Only one toaster and there%26#39;s usually a line for it.

There is an $8 a day resort fee that seems a little unnecessary. Also the parking situation isn芒聙聶t the best. Only valet and there aren芒聙聶t many options. Meter parking across the street, but it芒聙聶s a quarter for each 15 minutes and they run 24/7. Valet was supposed to be $8 a day, but when a friend came to visit me there he had to pay $10.

Also had some trouble at checkout. We booked a flight/hotel package through U.S. Air and the hotel kept asking us for a voucher from them for the room. We didn芒聙聶t have one and almost got charged for the room twice. We got U.S. Air on the phone and they were going to take care of it.

There is a grocery store in walking distance to the hotel (a Publix). They have beer and wine... and groceries. That芒聙聶s a few blocks south of the hotel. A few blocks south of the Publix are some restaurants in a small strip mall. I ate at two of them芒聙娄 I forget their names, but they were good.

The beach is nice芒聙娄 big and practically empty when I was there. Ocean was nice, too. Pool was hot芒聙娄 very hot. They need to knock the heater down a few notches. It was like swimming in a big hot tub.

You芒聙聶re going to be far from Miami Beach and South Beach. Tried to save some money and took a bus to SoBe. It was $1.50 each way, but took 40 芒聙聯 45 minutes each direction. Not bad if you芒聙聶re not in a rush. This hotel is almost in the middle of Ft. Lauderdale and SoBe.

I picked up a hack cab at the airport. He was charging $40 to get to this hotel芒聙娄 he got us lost and it ended up taking an extra 30 to 40 minutes to get there. Will never take an unlicensed taxi again.

That芒聙聶s all I can think of. Overall I would stay at this hotel again. Very good location for kids芒聙娄 will keep them out of trouble since it芒聙聶s out of the craziness of SoBe and Miami Beach.

    Hope this helps.

    orlando in september/??

    Hey everyone

Me and my partner are looking to go to orlando for 2 weeks at the start of september.I was just wondering what the temperature would be like?i hope it wont be to hot.what sort of heat is it over there?is it humid?

Thank you in advance to anyone who replys.

    Ails :0)

    orlando in september/??

It is very hot and humid in early Sept. with almost daily brief but heavy thunderstorms in the evening. Last time we were there in early Sept. the highs were in the mid to upper 90%26#39;s.

    orlando in september/??

Not only is it hot and humid, but the peak of hurricane season is September 10th, so you are more likely to have a hurricane in early September than any other time. If you can wait until October, you%26#39;ll like it much better.

I went last sept just after Katrine hit the coast and I have to say the weather was brilliant. It was hot and sunny and only rained twice the whole time I was there.

I%26#39;d heard about all the urban myths about hurricans etc but I%26#39;d go back in spet again without a second thought.

Another good side, the queues at the parks are pretty much non-existant!

thanks to everyone for your help..just to say that i have posted a new post instead of replying to this one by accident.please see ';weather and tickets'; post.

    Thank you

    Ails :0)

Risking a trip to Orlando in September for someone driving there in the U.S. isn%26#39;t a big deal. Risking at trip for someone flying from the U.K. may be a different story.

If you do decide to go in September, be sure to purchase travel insurance. The hurricane forecasters are saying its going to be another bad year. I was in Orlando in Sept. 2004, in between the three hurricanes that affected Orlando directly or indirectly. I could easily have cancelled at the last minute being one state (Georgia) away (glad I didn%26#39;t have to), but it was a very risky venture.

i must by lucky, i%26#39;ve gone in septemer 3 years in a row with no hurricanes.

but its a good time, go after the holiday weekend and its so quiet in the parks, no queing for any rides in any park any year

  • Budget hotels near Discovery Cove??

Looking for something like (Comfort Suites, etc....) near Discovery Cove. Anything within walking distance, clean, safe with great pool? Also, for those who are familiar with the Sea World/Discovery Cove area, will you please suggest good places to eat.

    Budget hotels near Discovery Cove??

There aren%26#39;t any hotels really close to Discovery Cove. The closest would probably be the Hilton Grand Vacation Resort. I would recommend using the I-Ride Trolley system and staying at one of the hotels in the I-Drive area. Hotels on Sea Harbor Drive or on Westwood Blvd. would be the closest. You would need to cross Central Florida Parkway to walk to Discovery Cove and there are no sidewalks in that area. It would be much safer to taxi or arrange a shuttle. Some hotels offer complimentary shuttles.

    Budget hotels near Discovery Cove??

Thanks for the info. I was researching hotels in the Sea World/Discovery Cove area over the weekend. I think I have narrowed it down to the La Quinta or Homewood Suites based on reviews. Any comments or other recommendations for hotels $100 or less in the I-drive area? I just want to stay away from the Disney crowd. Thanks!

Depending upon your travel dates and number of persons, the Residence Inn might be a good choice. They include a hot breakfast buffet in the price of the room. All units include a nice kitchen / kitchenette. After Spring Break season and before the summer season arrives, rooms go as low as $104 a night. We have never been disappointed by Residence Inn stays.

We are staying at the one on Westwood closest to Seaworld in early June, but the one on International Drive might work out well also.

    Royal Table Dinner questions???

I am looking at booking a dinner time seating at the Royal Table, for my family and my daughter who is 8yrs old. I am however confused because on the web site it says that character dining is only at breakfast and lunch. I was hoping to plan an evening at the Magic Kingdom and then stay and watch the fireworks.

So my question is do I bother with the

Royal Table at dinnertime? Would my Daughter miss the Characters? Or would she still enjoy it enough to justify the cost.

    Thanks

    Royal Table Dinner questions???

We ate dinner at the Royal Table and the kids thought that it was neat eating in a castle. I don%26#39;t know if she%26#39;s always there, but Cinderella was on the main level of the castle to get pictures with.

    Royal Table Dinner questions???

We ate at Cinderella%26#39;s castle last year. In the lobby before your table gets called there are sometimes characters to get pics taken with......we saw Cindarella who was then relieved by Mary Poppins. In the actual restaurant itself there were no characters but all of the waiting staff were dressed as castle servents (i.e. jesters uniforms etc, looked very medieval!)

Although there are no characters here, kids love dining in castle surroundings.....and the desserts are fab (try the bibbidy bobbidy brew.....you get to keep the glass!)

Booking lines open at 12 noon UK time.If you are going at a busy time of year, start dialling at 11.57 and keep hitting redial, exactly 180 days before hand!! I know it sounds daft, but if you dont, you wont getting a reservation!

    Hi Saints,

We visited the magic kingdom twice during our two week trip last year (June). On the first day there we made reservations at the restraunt for the week after (when we planned to visit the magic kingdom park again) and we had no problems getting a table. It really just depends how busy it will be when you arrive.

    Hope this helps

    Hi Saints,

I booked from Ireland by ringing the no. Fla4fun provided exactly 180 days from our holiday date at 12 noon on that day (the call centre opens at noon GMT) and there was no issue with the booking. However, at that stage some of the times for the character breakfast here were gone.

  • What can you tell me about Center Court's...Verde Suite...

I%26#39;ll be in KW on for the weekend on April 21-23rd and was wondering about these properties. I want to be somewhat close to Duval, and it looks like these three Center Court places are really nice. Anyone know personally?

What can you tell me about Center Court's...Verde Suite...

My fiance and I stayed the ';Tropical Hideway'; (through Center Court) during our December %26#39;02 trip to Key West. It%26#39;s on the same property with the Pineapple Retreat %26amp; the Seaport Suite. I didn%26#39;t get to see inside the other 2 units, but I can vouch for the common grounds of the property and its location in Old Town.

The property is well maintained and in a quiet neighborhood. The pool is fairly large (by Key West standards) and since it%26#39;s only shared with 2 other units (one of which has its own private dipping pool) we never saw many people using it. The landscaping on the property was extensive, and it was very convenient to have complimentary laundry facilities onsite. The daily housekeeping service was a nice touch as well. Even on the days that we put out the ';no housekeeping necessary'; sign, they still were nice enough to leave fresh towels for us!

I wouldn%26#39;t classify the property as being ';close'; to Duval street. It was roughly 6-7 blocks away, which was about a 20 minute walk at a VERY leisurely pace for us. We never minded the walk - we felt more like locals by staying in a primarily residential setting, and it was a nice change of pace to adjust our walking routes to tour through the surrounding neighborhoods on our way to/from Duval.

If you want, you can use a online service like ';MapQuest'; to show you exactly how far it is from the property to Duval St. Use the intersection of Frances St %26amp; Eaton St as your starting point, and the intersection of Duval St %26amp; Eaton St as your ending point. That gives you a straight-shot distance to Duval St, with Mallory Square being a block or so away from that ending point.

I liked our location for being so close to the some of the more ';local'; hangouts AND one of our favorite lunch spots - B.O.%26#39;s Fish Wagon. The added benefit of being away from Duval was how peaceful our neighborhood was. We could leave our French doors open in the mornings and evenings and the only sounds coming in were the rustling of the leaves in the breeze %26amp; the birds chirping. Very relaxing!

  • Provincial Gardens

My husband and I are considering staying at Provincial Gardens. Any feedback from guests would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Provincial Gardens

I rented a direct waterfront unit at Provincial Gardens several years in a row. I found it to be absolutely delightful and would have returned again and again had our family not purchased condos on Sanibel Island.

Our unit (as stated) faced the small green lawn and dock and looked across the intercoastal waterway to the mainland. It was updated and very comfortable. We watched boat traffic passing by, ranging from beautiful sailboats to large commercial vessels. We saw dolphins and families of ducks. The grandchildren ';fished'; from the dock. I actually found this view more interesting than being right on the Gulf.

It is quite a walk to the beach; you have access through the Aloha Kai property across the street. You also have (at least at the time I was there) use of the Aloha Kai pool which is quite nice.

Again, our unit was directly on the water which had special advantages. Most are not, but they all appeared to be comfortable places...especially, perhaps, for longer term stays.

    Provincial Gardens

I noticed that the unit we rented is listed at www.vrbo.com #7580 If you look there, you will get a better idea of what to expect at Provincial Gardens.

Grandma, This is on my list of places to rent. $525 for the weeks we are going. How far is the beach from there? Also, since I dont know Siesta Key at all, does this put you at a good place on the beach?? Steph

    Hello, Steph:

Your access to the beach is through the Aloha Kai complex across the street. I%26#39;m not great at calculating distances, but I would say...maybe the equivalent of one city block through Provincial Gardens and a bit more than that through the Aloha Kai property...not too bad. You come out right on beautiful Crescent Beach with the great white quartz sand.

Are you considering renting the direct waterfront unit I mentined on VRBO.COM? We just loved it there...very peaceful lanai for relaxing and generously sized bedrooms. Hope you have a wonderful time on Siesta Key.

    Steph:

I read several of your other posts and made the assumption that your four children are likely all less than 10 years old (although, maybe not)

I appreciate that you are budget minded and interested in a longer vacation...(been there and done that in days gone by with 6 children of my own!) However, IF the children are all very young, you may want to check out VRBO #19004. I know the posted rate is almost double that of Provincial Gardens, but this unit is first floor at Siesta Dunes and just a few steps to their neat round pool that is a great place for beginning swimmers. Also, the grounds at Siesta Dunes are spacious and wonderful for little people to explore. Plus, there would be no crossing of the street involved...the complex is right on beautiful Crescent Beach.

The owner of this unit is a delightful lady...she may be willing to work with you on the rental fees since you are planning a longer stay. I am just remembering that there are certain things that make a vacation experience with small children easier on mom! Provincial Gardens will give you a lovely condo...Siesta Dunes may give you that plus a lot more convenience. Might be worth investigating!

    WOOPS! I meant vacationrentals.com #19004

YEs, at the time we go, one will be 5 and another 9... then while away, one turns 3 and one turns 8. So yes, all under 10 :). We only get one family vacation a year (due to hubbys business) so thats why the longer stays (2 weeks or 3 if we can swing it). We would like to be under $600 a week... which then we can do a 2 week stay, if $500 or less, then we can swing 3 weeks. The airfare is cheap, but we will need to rent a minivan... which will KILL us in cost thats why I am trying to save on lodging costs. I am open to any and all suggestions. I have set aside 10 places between VRBO and siest4rent that are within my budget. I only need a 1br as the kids hate sleeping alone so they always end up in one bed. So a queen sofa bed is great. So if you have anything in mind, I am sooo open to suggestions! ~Steph

One MAJOR suggestion I would make is to check breezenet.com every week for current rates on minivans and online specials. They list all major car rental companies. Once you have a pretty clear idea of the range of rates, go to priceline.com and place a bid that is at least 25 - 30% less than the least expensive rate. I have been using Priceline for the past 5 years and now have converted my grown children to using them as well. They will charge your credit card right away if your bid is accepted (start low...you can always increase the bid after a 2-3 day waiting period.) They use only major car companies with airport pickup. We have been given contracts by National and Avis using Priceline. Never a problem! That may give you some ';wiggle room'; in the budget....

I use priceline all the time :) Last year we did our rental car through them and I paid $102 for 8/18-8/23 Got a full size Impala! I will be using them for a minivan as well. Right now they are saying $35 is a good rate to bid for a minivan... we shall see! The impala fits 6 comfortably but my dad might be coming to stay with his friends in Venice... so we would have to get a minivan. I will look at breezenet.com though, thank you!

Grandma... hubby said today that he was disappointed I wasnt looking at beachfront places. I am the budget minded person and was trying to go cheap but he wants what he wants! So he said FIND a beachfront place :) I dont know what places are right on the beach (yes, he knows the price is going to go up!).. help! Steph

    Housing for Students

Our daughter and roommates are thinking of going to school in St. Augustine, what can we expect to pay for housing? Rent of buy? Any advice? Thanks for your help!!

    Housing for Students

Room and Board is included in Flagler College tuition fee - students can live in the dorms for

tuition. Rent in historic district (near college) run from $650. up a month plus utilities for a studio apt. Water is expensive here and most apts. are set up so the tenant pays for the water.

Houses can be rented and rent and utilities shared by students. Lincolnville you can rent houses for $950 and up (2 - 3 bedroom ) plus utilities.

Places on the island (not on the water) can be rented for the same amount, I would say.

Housing is not easy to find just for college

season, however. You would probably have to pay rent for the entire year even tho students won%26#39;t be here a full calendar year. Also what is available off campus goes fast; you almost have to call the same day to rent before someone else.

Living in town is the best especially if students don%26#39;t own cars.

If students have a car and don%26#39;t mind commuting 10 - 15 miles, I am sure there are places in the sticks for rent for less (mobile homes perhaps.)

    Housing for Students

There are loads of rental properties all over. Check St. Augustine South which is 4 miles south of town, not far at all really. If you%26#39;re actually thinking of buying, then by all means buy. It%26#39;s not going to do anything but go up in value.

    happy easter!!!

yes i know this will sound stupid but i`m going to ask anyway ... we`re coming to disney next easter staying near sea world ,is there somewhere near i will be able to buy easter eggs for the kids i`m not even sure if americans have chocolate eggs like us brits ????

    happy easter!!!

Are you kidding?? No one eats more chocolate than Americans...after all, we have Nestles and Hersheys to proove it. Get your Cadberry eggs fast though, they sell out almost everywhere!!

Every store around will have chocolate bunnies, eggs, candy, etc. All you need and more. The best prices will be found at Wal-Mart or Walgreens Pharmacy.

    Happy Hunting!!

    happy easter!!!

thanks thats that sorted!! on the easter subject do any of the disney parks do easter egg hunts??

only problem is there chocolate s*cks.

    Ads,

It%26#39;s all relative to what you are used to. When you grow up having nothing but Hershey and Nestle, you love it.

Personally, I prefer Dove brand chocolate eggs, as well as the Reese%26#39;s Peanut Butter Eggs. The Hershey%26#39;s chocolate seems a little grainy to me. You can also go to the specialty stores like Godiva and get good Easter candy. There is a Godiva store at Florida Mall and Mall at Millenia.

    Hey Fla4fun,

Don%26#39;t you know that Reese%26#39;s cups are made with Hershey chocolate? ;%26gt;)

Hey, when it comes down to it, I love all chocolate...no matter who makes it!!

In town 4/20 through 4/23 looking for another couple

    Hi,

We are a fit couple staying off of Duval the above dates. We are coming down for a mental health weekend and are looking for another couple for fun and debauchery.

In town 4/20 through 4/23 looking for another couple

your post may indeed be quite innocent, but it made me think of the time Edith Bunker answered an ad in a newspaper from a friendly couple...she invited them over for dinner %26amp; they turned out to be ';swingers.'; It was one of the funniest ';All in the Family'; episodes ever.

In town 4/20 through 4/23 looking for another couple

Hey there GNR, we%26#39;re from Cleveland too. We%26#39;ll be arriving on the 20th staying through the 26th. What did you have in mind?

Hmmm...I just chased your posts and I%26#39;m now thinking that maybe you have something else in mind rather than what I had in mind.....We%26#39;re not into *that* kind of fun!

Hey guys! We are originaly from Cleveland also. Drop us a note. southernmostswingers at hotmail dot com

  • country bar?

Hey do you know if there is any good country bars in Ft Walton,Destin area?

    country bar?

Try JR%26#39;s Green Knight. It%26#39;s on this map: http://www.communitywalk.com/map/2872

    country bar?

Are you wanting to dance? Or just a bar that plays country music?

There was a country dance bar in Ft. Walton, but I don%26#39;t know if it is still open. There is not a country bar in Destin that I know of.

I know when me and my husband went about 4 years ago there was a country bar off the strip it had pool tables dance floor and I think a mechanical bull but we dont remember the name of it? we are comming down there in June and we was wondering was it still there and if there was anyother place that played country?

I hope you are talking about Miracle Strip in Ft. Walton.

There has never been such a place in Destin for at least 12 years.

Yes in Ft Walton do you know if it is still there and what the name of it is? Thanks

Could it have been Club Country? And is now The Block, on Eglin Pkwy?

I think that is it but what is the block? is it still country

The Block Club is apparently three venues- dance club, C%26amp;W club and sports bar with karaoke (http://www.theblockclub.com/), I just found it wandering the web, haven%26#39;t been there so can%26#39;t make a recommendation.

JR%26#39;s Green Knight, as mentioned by BarKeep, sounds pretty good (doitgulfcoast.com/destin/…main.htm)

Thanks poodle I will check it out just keeping an eye on the weather right now to see what its going to do predicting really bad tornados in our area

Yes, the club was once Club Country, but it is not The Block. It still has the bull on the country side of the bar.

A hip-hop club, country music club and a karaoke side.

I think its a fun club, i enjoy it there!

Palm Bay Club or Crescent Royale for Easter Week

I have to make a quick decision on whether to stay at the Palm Bay Club or the Crescent Royale for one week (4/15-4/22). Would appreciate any help in deciding between the two. Also, shouldn%26#39;t spring break be over by then?

    Thanks,

    Ed

Palm Bay Club or Crescent Royale for Easter Week

I don%26#39;t know anything about Palm Bay Club, but my wife and I always stay at Crescent Royale. We are very happy with it. As far as spring break, I don%26#39;t think Sarasota is necessarily a spring break haven. Maybe Realtor1 can chime in here.

Palm Bay Club or Crescent Royale for Easter Week

Is Crescent Royale location good? Looking at property for week in summer, teen age kids coming along, hoping for something close to village.

Crescent Royale is right across from the public beach. We%26#39;ve walked to the village from there -- maybe about a 15 minute walk?

Palm Bay Club is nice, also. I have friends who stayed there a couple of years ago. The tower w/condos is right on the beach but some of the rooms are across the street on the Intercoastal. It has tennis courts, docks, fishing pier, and I think a small spa. It is on Midnight Pass which is the main beach road in SK.

Ed, Crescent Royale is closer to Siesta Village and all it offers, but the Palm Bay Club has more amenities, according to AAA. Yes, Spring Break is over, but we%26#39;re still crowded with the ';Easter Breakers';. Our weather is PERFECT, so c%26#39;mon down and enjoy!

  • sunrise

hi there - will be coming to sarasota for 2 weeks on the 21st april, hope the weather keeps fine!!! can anyone tell me what time roughly it gets light and gets dark..probably seems a silly question, but i am an early riser, (very early) and i know the rest of the family dont usually %26#39;surface%26#39; til after 9.00am, and i hate sitting on my own waiting for it to get light????.

    sunrise

Well, right now, it is already daylight at around 7 am and dark around 8:30 pm. give or take a few.

    sunrise

My husband also rises early and when we are in Seista Key he is usually been fishing for an hour or so before I get to the beach around 7:30. Are you staying on or near a beach?

It begins to get light around 6:30AM(sunrise today was 7:11) and sunset is to be 7:52 this evening. It%26#39;s still fairly light until 8:30, as previously posted. Our sunsets are pretty spectacular this time of year. Enjoy your holiday here with Sarasotans!

    Water temp in April

Can anyone give me an idea of how warm the Gulf is in April (18-24)? Is it swimmable? We%26#39;ll be at Disney and thought of going to Sarasota for a few days also, but want to be able to go in the ocean. Have only been there in the summer in the past. Thanks!

    Water temp in April

Warm enough ... once you make that first plunge :) But if there is a breeze blowing, it will feel a tad chilly.

    Water temp in April

Thanks! You%26#39;re so lucky to live in such a beautiful area!

Well, three years ago I would have agreed with you but the last two years have been a little nerve wracking with the threat of hurricanes.

The weather has really been wacky the last two years. In this area, which is East of Tampa, we usually get about two mornings in December when the temperature will drop to freezing. Of course it doesn%26#39;t stay there once dawn breaks. Last December there were no freezing temps at all. And it was not until February that we got one morning that it went to freezing.

So who knows what it will be when you are in Sarasota.

We came back from Sarasota 3 weeks ago and nobody swam in the ocean. Nights were cold but days were already hot. Make sure your hotel has a heated pool if you wanna swim. It is a nice area to visit though. It took us around 2 hrs. to get to Sarasota from Disney World. Do not drive during peak hours, traffic is bad.

There isn%26#39;t an ocean here in Sarasota, it%26#39;s the Gulf of Mexico. :-)

Sarasota Bay is still a little chilly, but people still go in.

Just about every hotel has a pool.

    Plenty to keep you busy.

Today the Gulf is 70, and it should warm up a bit every day. Right now we are having Chamber of Commerce weather and people are really enjoying the beach/Gulf!

    $15.00 mojito question

My wife and I will be staying in South Beach for our 20th anniversary. We%26#39;ve spent a fair amount of time reviewing hotels and have landed on the Victor, Shore Club, or Delano. Heavily leaning towards the Victor..Is there anyone out there who can give a perspective on all three or two (or one)? We don%26#39;t mind a long nightlife but - on the other hand - we don%26#39;t want to be listening to loud drunks at 4:00am (unless of course we are the loud drunks at 4:00am)...

Also - by most, if not all, accounts - South Beach is over priced. We get that and we%26#39;re cool with that - but if someone is going to charge me $15.00 for a mojito - I%26#39;m hoping they make me feel like it%26#39;s a $15.00 mojito. If anyone can tell me which hotel accomplishes this, I%26#39;ll be a happy man.

thanks in advance to any and all opinions.

    Rick

    $15.00 mojito question

I don%26#39;t know much about the Shore Club since I%26#39;ve never been there but I%26#39;ve been at the Delano and Victor. I think the Victor is way better for a romantic setting and the rooms are bigger.

I had a great mojito at Van Dyke%26#39;s on Lincoln Road. Go upstairs where there is a jazz bar. They have some great latin dishes too.

Hope you have a great time wherever you stay!

    $15.00 mojito question

    Rick,

I%26#39;m a local here, so I%26#39;ve never actually had the pleasure of staying at any of these hotels. However, from what I%26#39;ve seen in person and heard on this board, Hotel Victor seems to be ';victorious'; over the other two (sorry, couldn%26#39;t resist!). Don%26#39;t know if you%26#39;ve done a search for ';Hotel Victor'; on this board, but there are a few posts with recent reveiws on here that simply gush over the Victor. Rooms seem to be larger and quieter at the Victor and the service seems to be top notch; service at the other two is all over the map, at best.

If you are going to indulge in the ever-so-expensive-SoBe-cocktail, do it at the pool bar @ The Setai Hotel (www.setai.com). Absolutely gorgeous atmosphere to go with your decadent drinks. The Setai was just recently opened and is one of our new shining (POSH) stars. With rooms starting at $900/night, an $18 cocktail is practically a steal!

    Another option:

The Rose Bar @ The Delano. The Delano is arguably one of the most beautifully designed spaces on South Beach and oozes cool sophistication. Pony up at the Rose Bar inside, indulge your people watching urges, then head outside to the pool and cabanas.

    Cheers!

    P.S.

I hope you don%26#39;t think EVERY bar/lounge is this expensive. There are TONS of more moderately priced places, as well as a decent selection of dive bars that us locals are pretty proud of so don%26#39;t feel required to break the bank every night. South Beach has something for everyone ;)

  • Need a soft, comfortable bed set
  • Nightlife

Has anyone heard of a bar called the Garden of Eden?

    Nightlife

Oh I%26#39;m sure everyone on this board has. It%26#39;s a clothing optional bar located above the Bull and Whistle and across the street from Fogarty%26#39;s/The Flying Monkey. Personally never been up but from what people write is that some folks up there should just keep there cloths on-lol I%26#39;m sure if you were going during spring break then it might be a little better/easier on the eyes.

    Nightlife

flattop hit the nail right on the head.

I%26#39;ve been up there 2 times. One time the lovely buffettgal and I were the only two up there. The bartender was a nice lady, topless of course, but I spent my time looking out over the city (if you know what I mean).

The other time there were several people up there. Only one was nekid. She was sunbathing, and a group of younger guys were being stupid - very stupid. We didn%26#39;t hang around long that time either.

Somewhat like Fantasy Fest... The rule of thumb for clothing optional events in Key West... (With few exceptions):

    Them that should, don%26#39;t

    Them that shouldn%26#39;t, do

Think of your fifty-something neighbor who spends the summer weekends riding his lawn tractor swiling beer and his wide-bottomed wife who you typically see bent over in the garden, weeding.... Now, picture them naked. Yikes!

In a couple of eyewitness cases; There isn%26#39;t enough rum and whiskey on the entire island to wash some of the mental images from my brain. On the other hand, the few exceptions found helped tremedously!

Ahhh, yes, the great paradox of any clothing optional place: most times you want to beg them to ';put your clothes back on!!'; As many times as I%26#39;ve been to Key West, I%26#39;ve never visited the Gardern of Eden. But I have been to Fire Island, and I truly did want to pass out beach towels--large ones!

We go to the Garden of Eden regularly. The bartenders there are by far the best in Key West. We love the place! But then again we aren%26#39;t part of the closed minded group of people that thinks only the ';beautiful people'; should be allowed to be nude. Stop being so judgemental and grow up.

Rule of thumb--if you can%26#39;t handle the sight, smile lightly and look at ceiling...just look at the ceiling...

    Good answer ;)

Or the sky, since there is no ceiling up there! ;)

OK, the wife and I went to the Garden of Eden last May on a Friday Night and had a great time. We found that on the weekend nights there are more people up there and it was fun. On the week days there is not enough people.

The DJ played dance music there were four guys and four girls that worked there naked. The chest painter was busy all night so as the night went on there was more nudity. Fun to watch.

We always go up to see if there is a lot of people and a DJ playing good music if not we don%26#39;t stay.

    PJ

    Southernmost,

I am certainly open minded, I am not judgemental and in fact, I%26#39;d gladly give back a few years of my %26#39;growing up%26#39; as I%26#39;ve had more than I feel I need and am now heading down hill. I do not care if people are wearing clothing or not and I would never want to dictate who could/would/should be allowed to wear or not wear. Please do not slant my comments.

In regards to FF nudity, my observations on Fantasy Fest were intended to give a factual view on it. If people come to Key West thinking that FF is some kind of Playboy Playmates meet Chipendales Dancers, they got another thing coming. It%26#39;s regular people doing what they can not do at any other time. They%26#39;re having fun, not hurting a sole and letting thier wilder side come out. It%26#39;s not a big deal so why not back off for a bit before you jump in someone%26#39;s stuff until you get an idea of what the person is about instead of making assumptions based on a single post. In other words, don%26#39;t be so touchy. This ain%26#39;t the mainland.

  • Discovery Cove -- day experience or twilight discovery??

This will be my first time going to Discovery Cove and I am wondering if the day or night session is better. It seems that the night one is for a shorter time and I would think that it would be hard to get good pictures. It is for the same price and I am wondering if it is worth it. I have not seen any posts or reviews about it, so I am wondering if anyone can give me some insight. Thank you!

Discovery Cove -- day experience or twilight discovery??

haven%26#39;t gone at night, but one thing to consider is that the water is very cold and it might be too chilly to do at night (although it%26#39;s always hot in Orlando)...at least the sun can warm you up during the day.

    Destin - Wow'd me!

Thanks for all your suggestions. We just returned from the most wonderful, relaxing vacation we have had. Imagine that with 5 teenage boys, it really was fun. You have a beautiful resort area, the beaches are wonderful, shopping and dining enjoyable. We went to PCB for a day and returned early, Destin is definately nicer in our opinion. The boys enjoyed Fudpuckers Teen Night%26#39;s, and loved the mini-golf and go-carts. Anyway thanks for helping me provide them with a safe, memorable senior trip.

    Destin - Wow'd me!

So glad that you had a great vacation!

Nine days and a wake-up call.....

    Holy Moses, I%26#39;m so excited!!

Some of you may know, but my husband and I met in Key West while we were both stationed there in the military. We married in 1996 and moved to California in 1998. I lived there for 6 years.

We always sad that we would come back for our tenth anniversary, and here it is!!

I hope we haven%26#39;t planned too much, but we wanted to do all the things that we weren%26#39;t able to afford while living there.

We arrive on the 20th and on the 21st we%26#39;re taking the seaplane to the fort.

The 22nd we%26#39;re doing the Danger Charter thing with snorkeling and kayaking.

Nothing on the 23rd. (this means recuperate from hangovers and walk around the island, shopping, etc.)

On the 24th, we%26#39;re doing the Scuba resort dive thing.

Nothing on the 25th (this means recuperate from hangovers and shop, etc.)

We leave for home the afternoon of the 26th.

Holy cow! I%26#39;m going to die from the excitement!!

I just had to share. Everyone at work is totally sick of me talking about it and I *knew* that my fellow Key West lovers would understand!

    Tips for using priceline?

I have never ';bid'; for a hotel room on Priceline, but thought I%26#39;d give it a try for our trip to Orlando in May. Any tips on getting a 3.5 star or 4 star - but not too much $? Thanks.

    Tips for using priceline?

I have often used Priceline for booking hotel rooms in Nashville. Often paid $40 - $50 for rooms that were $100+ when reserved directly at the hotels.

Look at the regular rates for 4 star hotels in the area you are interested in. Then bid up to 60% less, indicating the star level and area of the city you want. If they do not accept your bid, you can place another one in about 48 hours (I forget exactly the waiting period..but about that long) Good Luck on your first try!

I%26#39;m planning a graduation getaway with my daughter in June. We%26#39;re thinking a few days at a nice would be nice. It would be a bonus if there were other nearby attrations--not Disney, been there, done that!

  • Which hotel on WDW property has better handicap access?

My friend, who has MS and is wheelchair bound, and myself are currently planning a trip to Walt Disney World sometime next year with his 3 kids. He is able to walk short distances, but will probably be dependant on his scooter chair. I was wondering which of the Disney hotels are better suiter for handicap patrons? Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks so much!

Which hotel on WDW property has better handicap access?

To my knowledge, all the Disney resorts have rooms with handicap access.

It would just be a matter of price and availability, and of course, your personal taste.

Which hotel on WDW property has better handicap access?

Althouth I%26#39;m a big fan of the Epcot Resorts, it can be difficult to get a scooter on the boat that goes to MGM. They do have accessible buses, and the monorails are accessible as well. The monorails can be difficult to get on and off of with a scooter because they have a small metal ramp you use to drive in and out. If you have to back up or down the ramp, that%26#39;s when it gets tough. Disney is a very scooter/wheelchair friendly place. If you don%26#39;t see the obvious way to get from one place to another, just ask. There is an entire section regarding guests with disabilties on allearsnet.com that you might want to read.

    clubs for reggaeton please?

Hi all, I’ll be staying in South Beach in mid/May for a long weekend (Cancun alternative)

Are there any good clubs (reggaton/latin) that are walking distance from Collins Ave?

Any other good night spots are not too crowded (if there is such thing).

Also, which clubs/bars would you advise AGAISNT and why? We’re only staying 3 nights so don’t want to waste time on dead tourist traps ;)

    clubs for reggaeton please?

Not sure where you are staying but here goes...

The only Reggae spot MIGHT be the Marlin Bar.

Check listings for you r scheduled dates at

    www.miaminewtimes.com

    Otherwise -

There is a more laid back pedestrian mall on Miami Beach called Lincoln Road that is around 17th Street. You could visit there day or night to shop and stroll and have a bite at a sidewalk cafe and an ice cream at the FRIEZE on Michigan afterward.

There is a cool Chinese place just off the mall on Meridian called Miss Yip%26#39;s that%26#39;s cool... UPstairs afterward, hit Buck15 nightclub. VERY COOL lounge www.buck15.com

One evening after a day at the beach, check out Lucky Strike - a brand new LA Style adult nightclub-meets-bowling alley. Read this article and see their website too.

    …wsvn.com/features/…

Check out Hotel Victor (rooftop bar; very swanky, very of the moment) hotelvictorsouthbeach.com

The Setai (poolside bar; ditto) setai.com

The Rose Bar @ The Delano (you have to go just to check out the “scene” and gorgeous poolside area) delano-hotel.com

Afternoon to sundown, try the Clevelander pool bar at 10/Ocean. Outdoors, low key, normal people... breezy and pleasant.

If you%26#39;re more wine than beer (or want to meet folks who are) Vino Miami Wine Bar and Boutique 1601 Washington Ave ';Sophisticated South Beach Happy Hour'; goes from 4pm to 7pm, Tue-Fri, and offers $5 glasses of boutique reds and whites.

If you want to go all out...

These places are a little more difficult to get into,Show up on the early side (11ish) and you should be good.

Sky Bar is the Thursday night IT party. Also pretty fun on Saturdays. It can be difficult to get in, but if you show up around 10:30 or 11, you should be fine. Sky Bar is a wide open outdoor space (lounge, not a club) with many bars scattered about; the crowd is eclectic, all types of people, wide range of ages. It%26#39;s really a very fun and diverse crowd; one of the best parties on the beach. www.shoreclub.com/shore_club_skybar.asp

Rokbar Great, small old school rock bar (get it?). Very fun. www.rokbarmiami.com

Snatch/Suite Probably the hardest place to get into right now, but Suite (the VIP lounge) is worth it in my opinion. www.snatchmiami.com

Finally, The Raleigh Sunday Pool Party is practically church on South Beach. That’s your best bet to see and be seen. I’ve also heard good things about the Ritz Sunday Party, but haven’t been myself.

    Good Luck!

    Anyone use the Marriott Spa?

I would love to hear your experiences at the Marco Island Marriott Spa. ALSO, if you have been recently, I would love to know their prices for massages and facials. Im told there is a daily rate to get into the spa, anyone know how that works? Any info is appreciated!

thanks in advnace for your responses. See you there the last weekend in April!!

    Anyone use the Marriott Spa?

I used the spa services in October 05 and my sister used them in Feb 06 and my mom just last week. If you get any sort of service from them, i.e. massage, mani, pedi, you can use the facilities for free, i.e. exercise classes, exercise room, hot tub, steam room, showers. IN october the massage was I think around $70-80, going rate. My yoga clas was $20 but it was free b/c of the massage. Give them a call, they are very helpful.

last day for help on Pelican Beach resort???

Is this a nice, upscale resort? Will my family and I be happy here? Is it clean and modern? Any help and/or advice? All the remarks on this forum seem mixed lately and I%26#39;m getting nervous. Thanks out there for your help!

How strict is IOA on tickets?

I had bought a child ticket for my daughter a while back that has never been used (1 day/1park). Now that we%26#39;ve decided to go as a family, I bought 3 adult tickets on-line today which got me the 2 additional days. Question, my husband will drive all night to Orlando so will need to sleep when we get there. Will me and my 2 kids be able to maybe go to IOA for the evening with the 3 adult tickets AND then the following day my husband be able to use one of those adult tickets so my daughter can use her child ticket?? How close do they watch if the same person uses a ticket for two consecutive days??

How strict is IOA on tickets?

nicksmom.... dont think thats gonna work hon... the tickets are automatically read at the gate, so if itys only a 1 day ticket, you aint goin to use it twice!! the best thing you could do is try and explain to the staff on arrival to see if they can help, but if you only paid for 1 day thats all your gonna get..once the tickets have been scanned they will show as already used the next day if you try to enter park... can be kinda embarrasin.... good luck anyhow x

How strict is IOA on tickets?

Sorry, I must not have made myself clear. Only the child ticket is a 1 day. The 3 adult tickets have 2 extra days on them. What I%26#39;m asking is if my daughter uses one of the adult tickets the evening we get there, will my husband be able to use it the following day or does the same person has to keep using it? My husband will be sleeping when we get there, so the kids and I were thinking of going for a few hours. Then the 4 of us will go the next day, with my daughter then using the child ticket. Am I making any sense??

I see what you mean, but not sure if it will work. My guess is it will, but maybe someone else knows for sure.

Not sure if IOA is doing fingerprint scanning like disney. It ties your fingerprint to the ticket to prevent people from selling their extra days. The best thing is to contact Univeral directly and make sure. Also make sure the 1 ticket you have is not expired.

I would guess that a child can use an adult ticket in general, though I don%26#39;t know for sure. The question is: does Universal have the technology to keep multiple people from using the same tickets? Disney, for instance, has finger scan technology where when you first use the ticket they take a finger scan (not a fingerprint, I don%26#39;t think), and on succeding days the same person has to use the same ticket--the finger scan has to match. I don%26#39;t know if Universal has this yet, or has a similar technology, although it seems like I heard that they are at least going in that direction.

If Universal does have finger scan technology, you won%26#39;t be able to do it.

We used the %26#39;3 free days%26#39; tickets in Feb,and there was no finger scanning or signature on ticket required.

When you pass your ticket through the machine, the attendant checks a small screen to see if it%26#39;s valid.

I don%26#39;t think they%26#39;ll particularly notice who the ticket holder is.

BUT,who wants to risk spoiling there time at the park with a potentially embarrasing episode at the gates?

I was at Universal and Islands the middle of March and my nephew had to sign his ticket the first time it was used and do the fingerprint scan each time he entered the park.

I don%26#39;t think they were doing it for all guests, but if your daughter happens to be one of them, then your husband would not be able to use that ticket the next day.

We were told that they are doing test groups now and that eventually all guests would be required to have their fingerprints scanned upon entering the parks.

We have season passes for the Disney parks, my husband and teenage son wanted to see if the finger scans were for real or not so they traded passes several times during our visit, the tickets went thru every time without question!

i was there last novemebr and we had to do the fingerprint scan like at disney so i%26#39;m not sure if it will work

I came back yesterday and they were finger scanning

    South Beach clubs

    Hi,

I have picked up a lot of info. from this forum already, so thanks to everyone who posts!

I am visiting South Beach, from the UK, with my girlfriend in July %26#39;06, staying at The Park Central which judging by the reviews on this site is pretty good.

I was wondering how %26#39;cover%26#39; works at clubs? Do you have to start a tab? Or is cover just another work for entrance fee?

Also what is the best way to get into some of the more exclusive clubs? or do we just have no chance?

    Cheers,

    Andy

    South Beach clubs

    Andy,

';Cover'; is another word for entrance fee.

    Brooklyntcb,

Cheers for your reply. I guess that cover in relation to restaurants is where the gratuity is automatically added? as we see more and more here in the UK.

    Car Question...

    Hey I am back...

I had reserved a really great full SUV for less than $130 for a week for a family of 5, and now that I definitely have an extra person (child) coming and a adult(maybe still up in air)...regardless I need a Minivan. I reserved that for $320 also(is that too much???). I am keeping both reservations just in case, but is there any place that has cheaper minivan prices or is it still too early?

Since we are on the subject on question answering...regarding car seats...I want to bring that on the plane with me for my 6 yo (is that ridiculous...she has to wear it b/c she is only 42lbs and 43inches, so here in MA it%26#39;s mandatory...even the 10 yo is small for her age) okay i went off subject for minute...But my question is do i need a carseat for fl, should I bring my own and use it on the plane and car, rather spend the extra money and renting on (oh yeah, I am bring a stroller also)...but is this too much stuff, I don%26#39;t want to over do it like last year when I was carrying everything off the plane (stroller, luggage, huge stuff animals that I won) all by myself.

    thank you for listening...

    Car Question...

Bring you car sea. Its the best option. Renting a car seat is expensive $9 per day.

What you realy need to consider is the amount of luggage you will be carying to and from the airport. The SUV sounds great, but did you check to see how many peices of luggage it can hold. I prefer a full size car to an SUV.

I find Mini-van rates extreamly high. You can probible get 2 intermediate cars for the price of a minivan. That is if you have 2 people willing to drive. Again look at cargo space. A mini-van may carry 7 people but can it hold 7 suitcases at the same time?

    Car Question...

The mini van price does seem a bit steep to me. I believe from another post of yours I saw you%26#39;ll be going in 4 months. What I do is I usually book a vehicle early and then watch for specials and discount codes. Click on the specials or deals button on individual car rental company sites and also check out www.mousesavers.com discount codes. I don%26#39;t know your specific dates, but on www.dollar.com I put in 8/7-8/14 and put in a discount code of kiss2 and it%26#39;s coming up $249 ($311 total with tax). I think you will still get a better deal than this as the time draws nearer.

We always bring our own car seats for money saving and the comfort factor. I purchased a special car seat luggage bag and we have always just put the car seat in with the checked luggage. For a short time when we needed two car seat and travelled one was in the luggage bag and one was just in a clear plastic bag provided by the airline. I%26#39;ve even seen them not in bags on the luggage belt. How would your year old be in a booster seat? These are a lot less bulky and lighter. I have a soft cheapy garmet bag that I stick my 5 year old son%26#39;s booster seat in along with other stuff such as a bag of pool toys and check it. We used to bring the stroller when the kids were smaller and check it in at the gate, but now that the youngest is 3 we just rent at the parks.

    According to the Department of Transportation of Floriday site: ';All children 5 years of age or younger must be properly restrained no matter where they are sitting in the vehicle. Children through age 3 must be secured in a separate carrier or a vehicle manufacturer%26#39;s integrated child safety seat. For children aged 4 through 5 years, a separate carrier, an integrated child safety seat, or a safety belt may be used. (FL Statute 316.613).';

    Thank you Kobolus and LoveVacations,

I am looking for a car seat bag holder and also an umbrella stroller holder. I was just going to let her use the car seat on the plane to give her added height...is that a good idea. With the stroller, i bought it a Walgreens on I-drive for 25 and it came in real handy (rather than pay for strollers at the parks), so that is definitely coming. The mini van, I know. I am renting with National b/c Dollar.com does credit checks and driving record checks, where that national only does driving record. but the price I reserved is 319, but i called and spoke with a guy there and he told me to keep both reservations and the day that I get there try and see if they will upgrade my SUV that holds 5 for a Mini for free (depending on the person and if they have extra%26#39;s, he said they usually do it) but if not then use the other reservation...that way i am safe on both sides but to check for deals starting in late May early June...

is there anything else that I should consider?

Hi, regarding the car seats. Well, I know what you mean about all the luggage, etc...it%26#39;s enough to make you feel like a mule. However, I just got back from Hawaii, and took 2 seats - one booster for my 6 year old (sounds like ours are the same size!) and one regular car seat for my 4 year old. On the way there we checked the booster seat and used the toddler seat and regretted it. Because it sticks out farther, my 4 y/o had no leg room and complained her legs were sore. (It worked great when we flew a year earlier, but being that much taller this year made it difficult) On the way back we checked both seats and my daughter was much happier. I know they say for safety re: turbulence it%26#39;s better to use child seats, but the plane seats just don%26#39;t have enough room. The airline provided heavy plastic bags for both seats so we really only had the luggage hassle from the car to the check-in, and baggage claim to the car. It%26#39;s not that bad. And we gate checked the stroller both ways. (And I got my 6 y/o to push the stroller for a while when I was too bogged down with it all! Put %26#39;em to work, they can do it, lol!)

Definately take the seat because the rental car places charge too much, even if they have them available (not usually guaranteed). And regardless of the law, it%26#39;s the only safe way to go. I spoke to someone whose kid was brain damaged because he was in a regular seat and the seat belt didn%26#39;t engage during the accident. Not worth it!!

    Have fun on your trip!

Personally I wouldn%26#39;t bring the car seat on the plain just to give your daughter height. One less thing to lug on the plane.

I forgot this in my last reply, but a lot of minivans have child seats built right in them, however I%26#39;ve never been able to find out the answer as to whether or not they%26#39;re built in or not until we were physically in the vehicle. We%26#39;ve also found them to be not very comfortable and used our car seats/booster anyway.

    Thanks everyone for you ideas,

I am going to bring the car seat (which is a full reclining car seat that can disconnect to a booster), the unmbrella stroller, and i just purchased online @ walmart.com a 3 piece kids luggage set (pulley, backpack, and accessorie pouch) for my daughter that she can pull. I will bring one large suitcase (i don%26#39;t think I will need any extra bags since we will have a w/d in both suites) but i guess I can hook my lil girls suitcase onto mine if she get tired of pulling it, and place the car seat in the stroller and let her push that...sounds good?

Great news you guys...remember how we just stated that prices for Minivan rentals were way too high, well through this membership I am in, I got it for 169 for a week and an extra day at 27 dollars...so with all tax it was 224.00...you cannpt beat that!

Great job, that is a fantastic rate. What code sid you use? I hope you have a great trip.

I found a Car Seat bag in either welmart or target. Had wheel on it so you can pull it and it had straps so you can carry it as a back pack. Because there is so much space in the bag, I use those space saver bags and compressed some clothes and then threw them into the car seat bag. Worked great for me, just don%26#39;t put anything in there that can break as the seat will be tossed around.

    What time are the fireworks?

I looked on the Disney website and (maybe I%26#39;m looking in the wrong place) but I checked the calendar and it showed what hours the parks were open, and what time EMH%26#39;s were, but not what time the fireworks were at the various parks during the year. Can someone point me in the right direction?

    What time are the fireworks?

Did you try clicking on the individual date number? If not try that and it should come up with everything going on that day.

    What time are the fireworks?

You must go to the Disney website calendar page and click on the numbered date on the calendar.

For instance, for day%26#39;s schedule, you go to the calendar page, and click on the #10 at the top right corner. This will take you to a page showing the fireworks and parade schedule for today.

Dates are now posted through October, so click away!!

Check the calender for exact dates. But to give you an idea, when I went in early Novemember to Magic Kingdom, the WISHES fireworks were at 9 pm. When I%26#39;ve been before in the summer to MK, it was always at 10pm.

Thanks everyone, I was just looking at the whole monthly calendar, not clicking on individual dates - will do that.

    Just Returned!!

We returned home last night from Disney. We were there from Mon-Fri. We stayed at the Embassy Suite at the airport which was nice. Our last visit was Christmas 2005 which was really crowded however I found Springbreak 2006 much bearable than Christmas 2005. I was a little worried because of all the Springbreak crowd info I received on TA. We visited all the parks{two per day). We also dined at Rainforest Cafe the first night. This was our second and last visit to RC. This place is totally atmosphere ONLY. The weather was in the mid 80%26#39;s. I can%26#39;t imagine visiting Disney in the Summer even if I received free tickets. We had a very good vacation and look forward to future visits. Thanks everybody for info before the trip.

    Just Returned!!

So glad you had a great trip traveln! Thanks for the review! And yes I would never visit Disney during the summer months!

    Just Returned!!

Travln, we too just returned. I think we had perfect conditions this past week , the weather was perfect, and where the heck were the crouds,,,, no lines. We also had the opportunity to stay at the Embassy Suites at the airport our first night. Nice hotel, nice people, glad you enjoyed yourself! Hey maybe we saw one another?!

The spring break crowds are less noticeable if Easter is late in April, because they are spread out over a larger period of time. If you come when Easter is in late March, it is much worse. We are still expecting next week and the following week to be standing room only everywhere.

Hey Rono! So glad you had a great trip and didn%26#39;t have to deal with crowds!? Looking forward to hearing all about it.

Don%26#39;t know which parks you visited but I just spent two weeks and there were queues for everything

Larma, I%26#39;m comparing to other years, and yes there are almost always lines. We were on most rides this trip in 45 minutes or less. Also, I find the area from Splash Mountain to It%26#39;s a Small World is always crowded, and hard to get through. This year it was notibly less crowded.

  • Boardwallk Inn - Getting to Magic Kingdom

What are the transportation options of getting from the Boardwalk Inn to Magic Kingdom, and the time it would take?

Boardwallk Inn - Getting to Magic Kingdom

The quickest way would be to board a Disney bus to the M.K.

There are no other ';direct'; routes except for the Disney bus service.

Boardwallk Inn - Getting to Magic Kingdom

There are a couple round-about ways to go, if you aren%26#39;t in a hurry. If you have a park hopper ticket, you can walk through Epcot and catch the monorail to the TTC, and connect by monorail to the MK. You can also take a boat or walk to MGM and catch a bus to one of the monorail resorts (you can walk to the MK from the Contemporary). The most efficient way is to take the MK bus from the Boardwalk though.

Great resort!! The bus is the most efficient way of traveling to M.K. as it drops you at the entrance, not the TTC(requiring a monorail or ferry ride.)Depending on your timing, buses run about every 15-20 mins. and it%26#39;s about a 10-15 min. ride.Same deal for the Animal Kingdom. Boat launches are fun to Epcot and MGM.(Try Spoodles for breakfast)

    Hi

Am going on 6th May this year and we have one member of the party who sometimes has occasion to walk with a stick. What possibilities are there with regards to wheelchair hire etc.How much am I looking at for hire. Many many thanks

    DIPSTIK

    wheelchairs

we hired one at each disney park at about 5 pounds a day last year dont know about hiring for general use though

    wheelchairs

You can rent wheelchairs at Disney for about $12 per day, or you can rent electric scooters for about $30 per day. Some parks it%26#39;s not too bad to push a wheelchair, because buildings are close. But at Epcot, the scooter is really a better option.

There are a lot of private companies that will rent you either the scooter or wheelchair for your entire trip, such as caremedicalequipment.com, randysmobility.com, or rentascooterinorlando.com. If you do a search on the forum and on the Internet, you%26#39;ll probably find even more. I%26#39;ve only done the daily rental at Disney, so I don%26#39;t have any experience with the other companies.

    theme park tickets

hi, me and the mrs thinking of going to orlando in september this year, both 38, obviously we will want to go to theme parks, any one know prices of one day tickets once your out there, i know you can buy two week passes before you go, but we will have a car and want to travel about a bit aswell, any advice i would be very gratefull.

    theme park tickets

One day tickets to the major parks will run you close to $70.00 per ticket. You can definitely get a better deal if you go with a multi day ticket, even if you wait until you get here to buy them. The Orlando Flex Ticket gives you 14 consecutive days unlimited admission to both Universal parks, Sea World, and Wet N Wild Water Park for around $200. That%26#39;s a lot cheaper than buying that many one day tickets, and if you use them just 4 days, they%26#39;ve paid for themselves. Disney also gets cheaper per day the more days you buy, and you can purchase them with the No Expiration option, so if you have days left over, you can come back another time.

    theme park tickets

thanks for advice, would there be much difference in price if i bought a 4 day pass here or when i got there, could i use 2 days one week and to the next or or as and when i like over 2 weeks, thanks

There%26#39;s not a significant difference in buying in the UK or US.Main thing to do is make sure you have as wider choice as they have in the US (they try to push longer-stay tickets to customers in the UK).

For Disney tickets, check out Orlando-ticket-deals.co.uk where they currently have %26#39;7 day for the price of 5%26#39;Premium tickets(拢158).

These expire 14 days after 1st use,so you can use them spread over 2 weeks.

How to reach the condo by phone

Does anyone know how to reach the condo directly by phone? I%26#39;m ready to book the last week of June at Gulf Strand but want to request an end unit with full beach view. I%26#39;m afraid to rely on online booking in the hopes of getting the view I want.

Also, how does this condo compare to South Beach Condo, I stayed there last year and was quite satisfied but wanted to explore another property this year. Any info would be appreciated, thanks.

try 1-800-628-0053. i don%26#39;t know how those 2 compare as far as inside the units, but you will be ALOT closer to the water than you are in treasure island. we much prefer st. pete beach over treasure island beach and really think the water quality is better too. i don%26#39;t think you%26#39;ll be dissapointed with the beach and the area. also, you have a shopping center right across the street. have fun!

Thanks for your reply, that was a good lead. I called and booked the condo today, with the view I wanted!!

I agree St. Pete is a great beach, I%26#39;ve stayed there many times, but only in hotels until last, decided to venture out and try South Beach at Treasure Island. Loved the condo but I%26#39;d have to agree it%26#39;s a long walk to the beach.

    Thanks again!

    Everglades day trip from orlando

    Hi

looking at doing the everglades day trip, you leave orlando at about 8am, go on an airboat ride, trip on a boat and a voucher for evening meal (with breakfast included on the coach i assumer) does anyone have any views on this? Anyone been on it recently - cost is about 拢55 - is it worth it?

    Thanks

    Everglades day trip from orlando

Pretty much a boatride through a swamp.Or as some would say ';the river of grass'; Too much time and effort for too little reward. It%26#39;s a very long way from Orlando, besides Disney will give you plenty of reasons to spend the 55 pounds in Orlando.

    Everglades day trip from orlando

Long, long way to go for a day! Try Boggy Creek airboats instead - closer and cheaper!

I%26#39;m afraid to say i agree its not worth it,from Orlando save it untill you travel to Miami or Naples one year and then do it.

    hi quest starz,

why not try gator land in kissimee. we go there every year. because the everglades are about the crocs and there are more than enough in gatorland and do not miss the swamp walk which is nice.

    thanks pam.

Do not go! You can take an airboat ride out on hwy 50 going towards cocoa beach. MAke a day out of it. It only takes about 40 minutes to get there and than afterwards you can visit the beach and some great little seafood shacks. Closer, cheaper, and more to do. It will be a 4 hour drive each way for maybe at the very very most a 2 hour boat ride.

PS also in the that area is the kennedy space center where the space program launches the rockets. It is also interesting to tour (if it happens to rain on you, it is a good back up plan)

also if you are not planning on renting a car, if you can for the day you can get one for less than 55 pounds a day. and you can take it where ever you please. IE to the little side trip I just explained.

There has been quite a few questions on this fouram like this in the recent past. Mamia/ Everglages trips. There seems little information what the itinary of this one day bus trips involves. Given that its the best part of a 4 hour journey each way it doesent seem to leave much time to do much sight seeing or activities.

If you are setting off at 8;00am its going to be dinner time before you get there.

Its going to be 4;00pm when you start running for home, with an hour for an evening meal, thats a 9;00pm return.

I would be reluctant to spend that money for a bus ride. If you had a car back in Orlando , or on another occasion. The price of one fare would buy you a hotel for the night for the whole party. The price of two would pay for fuel and food for two days. any more passengers in you party would be a bonas. Then you could spend a couple of days, or more in the area . and there is lots to see.

Hi - thanks for the advice - we%26#39;ve now decided to drive down one day - find a hotel and do a boat tour and drive back the next - any suggestions on nice places to stay - want a fairly reasonable hotel - 4 of us so need 2 rooms. Would it be possible to stay near the sea? Any hints for a good place for boat rides in the everglades?

    Thanks

Jeez, I still think it%26#39;s a waste of time, but Radisson, Hilton or Marriot hotels on Marco Island should put you near your destination, and are directly on the Gulf of Mexico.(And are nice properties.)

I agree with boston tom.... It is a cool thing to do but not worth all that effort... I promise you. But, you can find out for yourself. When you didn%26#39;t get to ride on some of the things you wanted too and you will wish you had the extra day... There are places all along 41. I am not sure what you think you are going to be doing... but if you drive there you should see a place a long the side of the road. A lot of expense for an 1 hour boat ride that could be experianced much closer to orlando... If you stay in ft. myers. which is about three hours away from orlando it will be another hour/hour and a half to the boat rides in the morning.

I should also mention Airboat rides (which is the type of boat you will be in) are not for the faint of heart. If you ahve small children... they probably will have to be a certain size to go... I would think they would have to at least be 7... The air boat is not covered and you will be in the sun the wholetime... you sit on benches and a large ';fan'; propells you. You glide up over grassy areas and the wildlife in this area is nothing to joke about. you can%26#39;t swim... at all! if you get into that water there is a good chance an alligator will get ya!

Maybe you know this information but if you think it is some calm relaxing boat ride where you see some birds and things... umm... not so much. You can do those kind of rides closer to orlando though. I just though I would inform you, I don%26#39;t want you to have unrealistic expectations.
