Cat,

You are staying across the street from the nicest and most upmarket shops in Miami, Bal Harbour, it has Prada, Gucci, Dior, most designers you can think of. It also has Banana Republic and Gap which are more reasonable.

I have stayed in this area many times and there is an area called Surfside very near you with a lot of interesting smaller shops and some nice restaurants, all within walking distance for you.

Check out Specchio (Italian), Cafe Cinna Cite, and Flannigan%26#39;s.

There is a big Publix supermarket very close by too.

It is a very nice area to stay in, you will need to head south to South Beach and the Art Deco district(in fact you can get a bus right outside Publix).

You are not very near the Everglades you would need to go on a day trip.

Again Monkey Jungle is the southern part of Miami. Vizcaya is a beautiful house, almost like a stately home and garden to visit, again south Miami.

Have a lovely time.

downtown fort lauderdale is nice and the beach, both about 30 minutes away by car...

Fairchild tropical gardens has a great glass exhibut by Chilully, stop in the Grove on the way...great area to rent a bike...

University of Miami is very pretty...

If you can get a boat and go out from Key Biscayne, that%26#39;s rewarding...
