Fort Lauderdale to Miami?

We are flying into Fort Lauderdale before transferring to Miami for a few nights at the Clay Hotel. Could someone please give some advice on how to get from FL to Miami easily and cheaply? We arrive at about 6pm, and this is our first trip to America, let alone Miami! Would really appreciate the help.

Cheers!

Fort Lauderdale to Miami?

Seems like renting a car would be the better option - even if just for the one day.

Thanks for the info. Is there a good public transport option? I%26#39;ve heard of the tri-rail, could someone tell me if this would be convenient - and cheap?? Are there stations near the Fort Lauderdale airport and South Beach?

Tri Rail runs south to Miami but does not venture east to Miami Beach. You can travel as far as Downtown Government Center and transfer on the MetroMover Omni Loop to the Omni and then take a public bus over the Venetian Causeway to the Beach.

You don%26#39;t say where you%26#39;re flying from, but you%26#39;ll probably be tired from your travels - take the shuttle - it requires the least thought - and you won%26#39;t have to watch your back or your luggage every minute. After you%26#39;ve had a meal and a good night%26#39;s sleep you can rent a car if you wish, but give yourselves a break on arrival.

Have a great time.

Thanks for all the advice. I have one final question just for the sake of comparison - generally speaking, how much would a taxi cost from Fort Lauderdale airport to the Clay Hotel?

Thanks again for all your help!

While the distance is just 30 miles and travel time about an hour, the cost to taxi from the airport to the hotel will probably exceed your expectations (estimated to be just over $60 one way according to the website)...

You should inquire at the dispatcher at FLL to verify the cost before you hire a taxi.

You can also try SUPER SHUTTLE. They proviide effiecient and inexpensive service to and from airports . They prices are very reasonable also .

We just did this and worked perfectly. The website is www.floridalimo.com. You will find their phone numbers there and prices but they are 18 per person plus tip for a shared ride (shuttle van) or 64$ plus tip for a private towncar. We called ahead to see if we needed reservations from the airport but they said no just go outside baggage claim to outside kiosk and look for the Florida limo signs on a shuttle or tri county transportation (same co), or just ask it was easy to find. We did the towncar on the way to Miami as we had 3 people and was just 10 $ difference and we did not have to wait for a shuttle to fill up. This was great just like having your own taxi without the clock ticking in traffic. On the way back we called them 24 hrs ahead and requested shared ride service and they picked us up on time in a towncar again (guess they did not have a van available) and we l picked up 1 other rider and were off for price of a shuttle 54$. I will definitelhy use them again!!! The last time we went it was 90$ in a cab including tip.
