sunmaid,

Mapquest is your best bet for judging distance/time from one place to another and the cruise line should be able to help you with transportation to/from the airport. They probably have the best deal.

I%26#39;m flying into Ft Lauderdale in mid-August 2006 and taking a cruise out of the Port of Miami. There are several shuttle services that can pick you up from the airport. Just this morning a reply to my post regarding tranportation to the Port of Miami from Ft Lauderdale suggested checking into the Tri County Shuttle Service. Don%26#39;t know if Ft Lauderdale has a Super Shuttle. They will usually customize a trip for a group. My understanding is that the distance is 30-40 miles probably 30-45 minutes. I checked into rental cars and Alamo offered the best deal for an airport drop off in Miami. However Hertz has a rental car agency at the Port of Miami and you can pickup at the Ft Lauderdale airport.

I am planning on riding down to the Port of Miami with a friend who lives in the Fort Lauderdale area, but I have a rental car reserved for backup--just in case. The cost for Hertz for one day and three hours was a two day charge of about $90 for the entire rental. Since there are 3 of us this was pretty much equivalent the charge of one shuttle service to pick up from our beachfront hotel and take us to the Port. The $90 for the compact includes dropping off in another location. A van or large SUV may accomodate you. 8 may be 1 person too many for an SUV. The good thing a bout a rental car is you have the car for the entire day and can do some running around before you leave for the Port or once you get to Miami.

Theck the internet for shuttle services. I did a search on Fort Lauderdale Shuttles and several options came up.

Here%26#39;s a chart comparing taxi and shuttle rates from FLL to various points including Port of Miami. I%26#39;m not sure if they are completely updated to reflect gas price increases if any.

On the Shuttles , you usually pay per person, although maybe you can cut adeal. Some of the car hire services have vans, hummers etc, as well as their typical Town Cars and charge one flat rate for the whole car. I think such van susually run a bit over $120 and may be a good option for a party of 8, if all your luggage can fit- or maybe two Towncars a about $60 each. Prices may have risen lately, but I%26#39;d contact several car with driver services for estimates and see what you comemup with.
