Please help me to find a hotel for my in-laws

Hi,

My husbands parents have asked me to find them a hotel for next April when they will visit the area. I have never been to this side of Florida and really have no idea about the best area and hotels to stop in Fort Myers. They are planning 6 nights Fort Myers and 6 nights around Naples or anywhere on the Gulf coast I would welcome any information anyone can offer so I have a starting point before trawling through all the hotels. They like to hire a car and travel the area quite a lot.

Thanks

The Sanibel Harbour Resort and Spa is beautiful. It is in Ft Myers on the water across from Sanibel Island, which is a great shelling destination. It%26#39;s also close to Ft Myers Beach, so the location is good. You may also want to look at vrbo.com which features condos for rent by owners. My suggestion would be to look at either Sanibel, Ft Myers Beach, or south Fort Myers.

In Naples there are 2 Ritz Carltons that are gorgeous.

Sanibel Harbour Resort sits on the edge of Pine Island Sound and San Carlos Bay. Since it is behind the the barrier islands of Sanibel and Captiva, there%26#39;s no beach, but you do have long water views over the bay and your parents will see dolphins and such. About the only drawback is getting in and out. It was extensively remolded after Charley hit and I hear the same good things that the above poster mentioned. Wonderful tennis facilities and Adventures in Paradise, a boat tour outfit is right there. Getting to restaurants may be a pain as most are either on the islands, on McGregor Blvd or down toward Ft Myers Beach. FMB is notorius for bad traffic in season.

Sanibel and Captiva are often more expensive and mostly condo type places, but it also has cottages and other types of lodging - but is considered by many pricey in season as it has miles of beach. See www.sanibel-captiva.org and click on Where to stay if you%26#39;re interested. If you need any info, just drop by the Sanibel forum.

Naples is about 45 minutes south of Ft Myers and a very upscale place. Another place you may want to look at is Longboat Key. It has more vareity of lodging than Sanibel, including two well regarded resorts, and is less than an hour north between Ft Myers and Sarasota. Seista Key is another option. Both have good Local Experts that can help you with info on them. You can also ask about Ft Myers Beach on Estero Island. Down toward Lover%26#39;s Key it%26#39;s quieter. Good hunting!

What is their budget? Do they want to be waterfront or beachfront?

I%26#39;ve tried to resist, but I have to ask...

When booking a hotel for your in-laws, are you looking for the Ritz, or would you prefer to book a tarpaper shack inhabited primarily by cockroaches?

Had to ask.

;)

Do they have their heart set on a hotel? How about renting a vacation rental home? The gulf coast has alot of fine rental homes available sites like VRBO or gulfcoastrentals are excellent. If they are looking for a nice hotel take a look at Pointe Estero on Fort Myers Beach. We have stayed there 6 times. We%26#39;ve since moved on to vacation homes-like the peace and quiet. The homes have private pools so we dont need to reserve our sun loungers. If your parents would like a nice area that has golf and beaches nearby check Englewood/Rotonda West area. Much easier driving around than Fort Myers or Naples especially in April.
