Hey AdvisorGirl,
I am from Germany and I am about to come over to the beautiful Miami Beach.
I have a few questions and would appreciate a short answer:
1) I was wondering if you have a good suggest were to live for 1,5 years. It should be NOT very expensive! Don%26#39;t really wanna pay more than 500 Dollars/per month. Is it maybe even better or cheaper to live in Miami or at the edge (or outside) of Miami? Would that be far to drive to Miami Beach every day?
2) Do you necessarily need a car in Miami Beach? What kind of public transportation system do they have?
3) Is Miami Beach a nice and safe city or is it in a lot ';corners'; dangerous and dirty!?!? How is it in the regulare areas (non-touristic)?
Please excuse my bad english! I hope you can help me with all these questions! Thank you very much in advance!! ~ms.genie

Are you coming for work or school? Where would you be spending your time so it would be easier to suggest a place to live? I think any place on South Beach would be best if that is where you will be working or going to school. It is possible to get around South Beach easily and cheaply with public transport or on a bike or scooter.
It really depends upon your needs for work or school!
I would suggest you look at Craigslist.com to see if anyone is renting a room or looking for a room mate. The $500 a month budget is extremely tight and you will probably need to share a space.
Do you have friends here? The weekly tabloid paper has a ';backpage'; listing for room mates here:
…backpage.com/rentals/classifieds/Results…
There is also a service called Home Stays here:

The other reason I suggest South Beach is it is a good place to meet other people out on your own. There are lots of people around all the time and you can walk to a cafe or a bar and find people to talk to and practice your language skills etc.

Going to be 1,5 years in Miami BeachHey AdvisorGirl,
thank you very much for your quick answer! You are a great help! Well, I will go to the US for work. I will have to do a training in a hotel (anywhere in the US) but I am not sure which city I should pick. I thought Miami Beach would be a great idea and I read a lot of stuff about the city. I%26#39;ve been to Florida once and I loved it but I went to Cape Coral. I did not get the chance to see Miami Beach.
Lots of people told me it would be nicer to go to Orlando... but I dont know...

Where is the hotel in Miami Beach? What are your personal interests - what do you like to do for fun?
I think the atmosphere on Miami Beach is great for international visitors. We are a gateway city for Europe and Latin America. There is a German population here as well.
Give me an idea of the area of your job and what you like to do on your own time so I can help.

Hey AG,
I am not sure in which part of Miami Beach the hotel is. I dont even know the name of the hotel yet. There is the homepage called HRC-international and this company helps you to get a job plus the visa you need in any country. I just have to pick a city and they`ll try to find the right job and the hotel for me. The programm is for 1,5 years and I have to find a place to stay too. I have found a great offer in Miami Beach. It is a four diamond hotel close to the beach (of course) but they do not tell the name in this offer.
I am about to send the application out but I am not sure yet if Miami Beach is the right city for me. Is it a safe city? Ive been to L.A. this year and I didnt like it at all. There were too many homeless people walking around and that really scared me! What is it like in MB??
I am definately interested in the beach, I love to go to the beach, I love to hang out with friends outside in cafés or go shopping, I like to go to the movies and I like to work out in the fitness center. I am pretty much open for anything. I like to try out new things.
Thank you very much! Bye ms.genie

Know this - Miami Beach is a big place and a hotel on Miami Beach may not be in South Beach. If the company that books the job can be clear about the area, it would help to plan. You can always take a bus up the Beach to work, but it would be best to live on South Beach. This includes areas south of 21st Street. Miami Beach goes on for another 60 streets north as well.
The area where you can walk to everything easily to look for a room mate or a flat is South Beach. I think you would be very happy there.

I followed the trail to your HRC website and there was enough information to figure out the details for you...
The hotel is formerly a Wyndham Hotel at 48th and Collins Ave. That is not on South Beach, but it is not far by public transport if you lived on South Beach. You would take a bus up Collins to get there.
The hotel recently was updated to be called the Miami Beach Resort and Spa.
Read about it here:

If you need to get organized to figure out where to live, the hotel is 48th Street on the Ocean.

Nice work AG.
Yeah that is true! Thank you so much AG! I really appreciate your help!!!! I guess I will apply for Miami Beach. Today, unfortunately HRC took out the Miami Beach offer, but they can put me on the waiting list for another hotel, so it might be a different hotel then. But well, Miami Beach sounds like a great city! In case I will get the job... I will let you know ;-)
Thank you one more time for your great and useful help!!!!!!!
