Are there any spots downtown in one of the big hotels perhaps which has a quiet bar with a view over the area?

The new Conrad on Brickell Ave has a fabulous ';sky bar'; view. Definitely check that out. Do not eat there - it is pricey and not so hot...

Also have a drink poolside at the Mandarin Oriental (happy hour Fridays too!)

On Miami Beach, head out behind Smith and Wollensky at South Pointe to watch the cruise ships sail by at 3-430 pm each day. Have a burger or a FAB club sandwich (my personal thing) and wave the tourists good-bye.
